Testing DC lathe motor21 Aug 2006 14:41 GMT6
I want to bench test a 1HP DC motor before installing it. Its shunt
wound, 220V motor with 170V field excitation. The four wires show
130ohms on one circuit, 2 ohms on the other, so I presume the field is
the former.
Limiting inrush current21 Aug 2006 13:31 GMT10
I'm embarking on building a HUGE rotary three phase converter and
intend  to incorporate some features to limit the inrush current. The
two elements that will cause problems are the enormous 230 to 415v
single phase transformer (thanks Peter) magnetising current, and the

Anyone with a Novo or Novoexport Sea Vixen here? Not Frog/Revell/Eastern Express/Modelcraft20 Aug 2006 03:26 GMT11
I'm trying to find out whether the old Frog Sea Vixen was ever released
as a Novo kit.
I see quite a few references to it in the r.m.s. archives, but the big
Lines/Hellström Frog-book says '0+' were issued by Novo Toys (the English
Airfix WWI Battleships/Iron Duke19 Aug 2006 22:13 GMT7
Used to have a great unbuilt collection of these, got lost over the
years in a divorce!  Are these WWI battleships and battle cruisers
still being made?  I remember the Iron Duke and perhaps a few others.
Thanks,

How do I remove enamel paint from a plasic canopy?19 Aug 2006 14:47 GMT9
I have been given a 90% finshed 72" Stuka. I would like to finish it in
desert colours, but the canopy struts have been painted black (probably
with enamel) - and need to be sandy colour if the rest of the plane is
in desert finish.
Anyone 'speak' Startrite Bandsaw?19 Aug 2006 14:20 GMT6
I'm considering a secondhand upright bandsaw.
Startrite current models are out of my price range even secondhand and their
tables only seem to tilt to 20 degrees and I want 45.
Older machines which are nearer my price range have numbers like 18-s-10.

Cruise Ship Models18 Aug 2006 01:13 GMT5
I really wish some of the big model companies would come out with some
models of the nice super sized cruise ships like the new Royal Caribbean
Freedom of The Seas.  I have done the Queen Mary.  I want to do some Royal
Caribbean ships!  Any chance of Tamiya or some other decent ...

mounting milling machine17 Aug 2006 22:00 GMT7
I am about to move my elliot Sturdimill 1250 to a new location - with 3
phase this time so I can actually use it!!! The mill weighs about 3 tons and
I was wondering how to mount it.
The manual says to bolt it down using rag bolts and then cement it in. Is
