IJN Yamato15 Nov 2006 19:17 GMT10
This is not at all in my field or scale, but has anyone seen the Tamiya
IJN Yamato sectional kits?
They look to be about 1/700 (I forgot to check) and they come as seven
(IIRC) seperate kits, each a vertical cross section of one part of the
Welding crack in cast iron central heating boiler15 Nov 2006 16:29 GMT10
Probably a hopeless task without specialist welding services and as yet I
haven't even got the thing to bits to see where the crack is. However if
it's accessible and the whole thing doesn't look paper thin can anyone on
here, preferably not a million miles from Slough, have a crack ...

Making gears? - for the novice15 Nov 2006 07:55 GMT6
All this talk of gears has made me want to learn about how to make them.
I found some reasonable references for the theory and terminology

"Rollies Dads Method"15 Nov 2006 03:34 GMT11
There is a fabled way of checking and setting the headstock alignment
of a lathe to the ways which was discussed years ago on various groups
that became known as 'Rollies Dads Method'. I can find references to
the phrase but not a description of the method - does anyone have a
It was *that* close!15 Nov 2006 02:24 GMT4
I almost got rid of all my stuff.  But I still have a bunch of basic
modelling tools left, because I just can't bear to part with them.  And
so it happens that a retiring AF pal of mine knows a guy.  This guy is
also retiring.  He's a big Wild Weasel fan, so my buddy wants to
looking for advice  slightly O.T.14 Nov 2006 22:59 GMT11
Hi Troops:
My ISP has become steadily less and less satisfactory in recent months.
First, I have dial-up and they do not have anything faster available in
my area. Nest, the e-mail server has been down about two days a week for

Why Did US WWII Planes only have one star on top/bottom of wing?14 Nov 2006 18:50 GMT14
Other countries had insignia on all four wing surfaces, why did the USA
do otherwise?

Trumpeter 1/32 Corsiar--opinions?14 Nov 2006 18:36 GMT15
I've been tempted to get one if the price is right, and now it's at least
better ($34).  I'm a big bent-wing fan, but I already have three Revell
kits, and a cockpit PE set for one of them.  I've had the Trumpeter box
open, and there seems to be quite a bit in there for detail ...
1/72 Gato - the real question14 Nov 2006 16:02 GMT10
A big part of me wants to get the new 1/72 Gato, but there's this
practical consideration that's bugging me - so let me ask those of you
who have purchased and are building your Gato:
Where are you going to display that monster?
Repairing damaged back gear teeth?14 Nov 2006 14:11 GMT41
I'm still messing around slowly putting my Marlow miller back together.
On advice from Pat Martindale I took the damaged back gear along to my
local precision engineers shop to see what they could do. Answer
nothing - joy! Here's the problem:
