drilling deep holes27 Nov 2006 21:33 GMT32
well moderately deep anyway.  In this case, 8mm dia and 65mm deep.
This is a hole in the end of a bit of BMS bar, so the bar is in the lathe
and the drill in a chuck in the tailstock.  First 25-30mm goes fine and then
the deeper it gets the more the swarf doesn't clear from the ...
Broken maraging sword - any use?27 Nov 2006 21:02 GMT16
I fence as a hobby (many of my questions are regarding the manufacture
of fencing equipment) and occasionally blades get snapped - the steel
used is very tough (maraging steel on my blades) so I wonder whether it
would be suitable for grinding into use for cutting tools and the ...

Supplier for thick ally plate27 Nov 2006 18:17 GMT7
I'm looking for a bit of ally to make something 325x115mm, 25mm thick. Could
anyone suggest a UK supplier, and give me an idea of how much I should
expect to pay?
BMS prices27 Nov 2006 16:24 GMT11
I know material has gone up, reportedly because China is buying it all, but
I'm amazed at the recent price of 80mm x 6mm flat BMS. Granted I'm only used
to buying round bar, but nearly £20inc vat for a 3 metre length
hurts........ or is it me !!! ( from Parkside and Acton Bright)
Slideway Grinding27 Nov 2006 15:49 GMT6
Just a bit of 'customer feedback' - about a month ago somebody was
asking about getting the slideways of their mill reground.  At about the
same time an advert appeared in Model Engineer, for the first time ever, I
think, offering that same service.
Mitutoyo DRO Agent27 Nov 2006 15:30 GMT1
Any of you chaps know a tame Mitutoyo agent?
I need a DRO part from them that retails for US $50 in the States and
according to Mitutoyo UK £78 in the UK. Some mark up in there.
The US won't export so I'd like to talk to someone other than the

Re tricky thread27 Nov 2006 10:04 GMT8
The central 20 bore has a "normal" parallel thread - that is that the
centreline of the thread form is square (at 90 degrees to) to the axis of
the bore. This device will rely on the thread form following a curved and
not tapered, path from the outer (40) diameter to the centre 20 ...
Bridgeport price advice27 Nov 2006 08:51 GMT14
I have been given an opportunity to make an offer on an old dirty series 1
Bridgeport mill. This  has a digital readout fitted. The machine hasn't been
used for ages according to the owner. Trouble is, where does one start?  I
liked the sound on nothing, he didn't !! I hate ...

1/72 figure gallery/forums?27 Nov 2006 04:45 GMT4
I enjoy building a variety of models, but for the last several years my
interest has been in 1/72 armor and figures.
My goal is to paint figures in this scale with as much detail as
possible, using many of the same techniques designed for larger scale
