| Salt bath hardening | 21 Dec 2006 11:22 GMT | 17 |
Since a few of the bits in this bloody Hardinge apron project could do with hardening after they've been made and since I haven't yet built a decent toolpost grinder. I thought I'd try an experiment to see how much distortion I might get when hardening the steel that I'm using to ...

I'm in the process of converting the Tamiya 1/72 Spitfire Mk.Ia into an early production model using the Model Alliance Conversion Kit. Does anyone have any info/opinions on the colour of early production Spitfire cockpit interiors?

| Clarkson Collets | 20 Dec 2006 23:36 GMT | 12 |
I have a Clarkson autolock collet chuck with my mill, and it has a set of imperial collets with it. However, I need to use a cutter with a metric (16mm) shank - and the 5/8 collet is _just_ too small! Anyway, my problem is that I cannot seem to find clarkson collets like

| For those interested in W.W.I... | 20 Dec 2006 18:11 GMT | 5 |
a friend of mine associated with the Army museum at Carlisle says that researchers in Germany have located the lost records of the Imperial Prussian Army from W.W.I. Seems they were loaded into a train, run into an old unused tunnel in a mountain somewhere and the entrances were

| Parts washers | 20 Dec 2006 17:17 GMT | 14 |
I'm thinking I might get a parts washer. Does anyone own one of the cheap imported machines which sit on a bench? The ones which are sold under brands like Clarke for £30-40? I was just wondering if they're any good. What's the build quality like? Is the gauge of steel used

| How level should a lathe be? | 20 Dec 2006 16:39 GMT | 19 |
I'm building a shiny new bench to put my Southbend 9", and hide some of the other crap in the garage. I am intending to mount the lathe on some levelling screws, as per Chris Heapy's site - large diameter, fine pitch bolts, and some large
