Japanese a/c names--why both genders?18 Dec 2006 01:40 GMT6
Why are there Kates, Vals, Sallys and Bettys, but also Nates, Rufes,
Oscars, etc?  Females for bombers, male for fighters?  I suppose that
would make sense, a female creating more hell and havoc all at once in one
spot instead of a little here, a little there  ; )  As an aside, what ...
Got to get rid of this17 Dec 2006 18:37 GMT4
I have a Mitutoyo verical comparator ("Digimatic") with a stand I need
to get rid of due to pressure from my other half. In a previous life it
was used for gauge calibration and I'm very unhappy about putting it in
the bin. It's about 25mm range.
What wire for spring and where from?17 Dec 2006 13:36 GMT13
Looks as though an idea I had failed miserably today.
I had some thick wire, a bit like piano wire 3mm dia from radio aerial
whips as used on taxis., some form of stainless, quite flexable does not
bend easily and resists corrosion.

DIY zinc plating16 Dec 2006 18:55 GMT3
How feasible would it be to do my own zinc plating?
I'm fed up carting around 40 odd mild steel plates 1000x80x6mm and then
waiting 3 days only to then have to pay £2 per length.

Wanted - lever action tailstock attachment for Myford S7.15 Dec 2006 07:10 GMT8
The title says it all really, the only slight hiccup is that I am in
perth (not perth scotland) so postage might be a touch expensive, but
thats a minor detail if anyone has one for sale ...

For Mark Rand - More gear-related stuff14 Dec 2006 22:24 GMT8
At long last, here's an arbor I made for cutting gears on my Mikron.
It's just a length of silver steel the same dia as the bore of the
gears I was making. In this case I have a collet of the same diameter
so it was easy.
Bridgeport series 1 with Heidenhain DRO14 Dec 2006 20:56 GMT20
When switching from metric to imperial, all that happens is the decimal
point moves over 1. Movement of a slide is still metric? To clarify... move
handle on table so dial moves between divisions, .020 mm I think. DRO gives
the same in metric, but 0.20 in imperial?
