Plate glass as a surface plate?28 Feb 2007 23:03 GMT54
Is a piece of plate glass any use as a surface plate?  It looks to be
about 8mm thick.  I know someone who's getting rid of a fish tank and
realised I could do with something a bit flatter than my workbench
surface but not necessarily the last word in accuracy.

Revell BMW kits - M1 & 635CSi28 Feb 2007 16:04 GMT2
I've been seeing these lately on ebay, but nobody ever seems to open
up the box.
I'm curious whether these are new tools or recycled ones.  Has anyone
who can tell the difference opened them up for comparisons?
1/72 U-boat Progress...all ahead, slow.28 Feb 2007 15:45 GMT3
Well...just to let folks whom are following in on the state of progress
with my U-boat build, I'm fiddling around with planning to close up the
hull.  I've finished fitting and painting the upper pressure hull, and
I'm working on installing the forward torpedo tube parts into the ...

I Did "finish" 5 models the past 2 days...28 Feb 2007 02:14 GMT7
Not counting the year or so they sat partially built on the shelf, but
finally they are put together.
Now painting them is another issue. That will probably never happen,
but at least I don't have to worry about losing any pieces over time.

Hiab needed27 Feb 2007 21:50 GMT7
Due to problems with my regular guys, like the trivial details of operators
licences, I am on the lookout for someone with a truck no larger than a 7.5
ton fitted with a hiab that can do a round trip from Enfield, North London,
to a private address just past Oxford, then to ...

RSJ/ I Beam/ Universal Beam Selection27 Feb 2007 15:27 GMT26
I've got an American design for a gantry crane. Very nice design by
all accounts but it's all in US steel specifications. Most are easily
translated but the main RSJ (to use the generic term) is speciifed as
a "6" 12.5 lb/ft beam".  Machinerys Handbook fleshes out the detail
Where to buy #1 x-acto knives?27 Feb 2007 15:05 GMT14
I use x-acto knives in my HS graphics class to cut stencils. Where can
I buy #1 knives by the dozen and #16 blades? I thought Home Depot but
they had a Stanley for $4. I've been searching Ebay w/o luck.
Thanks, Ron
