What are engine valves made of?15 Mar 2007 09:23 GMT2
Anyone know what grade of steel (or whatever) the valves in a Rover V8
are made of ? I have a lot I am chucking out and I thought they must
be good grade steel and might be useful in a model I have in mind, but
I need to know what they are made of to heat treat them.

Not sure if that's good or bad.

Devon to Bedford14 Mar 2007 13:27 GMT5
I'll be taking a leisurely ride in an otherwise empty (small) car
from near Exeter to Bedfordshire next Monday. Seems a bit of a waste -
has anyone got anything that needs a lift ? I shall almost certainly
be calling at the toolshop at Colyton and perhaps the one at Stroud,

Mitiuybo Vernier spares13 Mar 2007 21:51 GMT2
I have just bought a Mitiuybyo Vernier with a dial on it with no needle or
glass. Can I get a spare one to fit this.
The vernier was a bargain at only a quid.

canopy problem13 Mar 2007 12:33 GMT10
I'm working on a 1/72 Tamiya Seiran. Nice kit, except for the fact that
the canopy is 9.5mm at its widest, while the fuselage at the same spot is
10.5mm wide. A 1mm difference doesn't sound like much, but it sticks out
like a sore thumb. If the canopy were too wide, I could probably ...

Slipping end mill in ER collet12 Mar 2007 22:27 GMT17
Was messing around trying to mill a bit of cast iron flat today. I've
got an ER40 chuck on 3MT and was using a 12mm 4 flute HSS end mill in
it. Started off fine, did a number of passes (about 6mm depth of cut,
3mm width of cut), then for unknown reasons the mill started shifting

More on the 1/32 Wish List12 Mar 2007 15:37 GMT26
If the urban myth is true that the Revell 1/32 Raiden and Tony molds
are at the bottom of the Pacific and therefore makng a repop doubtful,
I thought it was curious that the two kits did not appear on the list.
I have an unbuilt Raiden, but with 40 year old decals and I have a
