| Old spaceship modelling book | 24 May 2007 19:51 GMT | 7 |
Just curious if anyone can remember the details about a book (well, more like a thick magazine really, but it was a one-off) that came out sometime in the late '70s or early '80s and had several articles on various spaceship model projects. I remember one was an Apollo XI

| Recommendation: Quality bench vice | 24 May 2007 07:52 GMT | 9 |
I'm after a seriously good quality bench vice that has no measurable play when in use. To be used for both fairly precision items and more bulky - up to perhaps 125mm or so.

| Freeing a seized nut? | 23 May 2007 21:59 GMT | 14 |
Apologies if this is slightly off topic. I need to free a nut which has seized on to a threaded shaft. Size is about 10 mm. The nut in question locks the track rod end onto the tie bar on the steering rack of my car. The gorilla in the tyre depot

| Looking for a specific ship class (plastic model) | 23 May 2007 20:48 GMT | 2 |
I am trying to locate a model manufacturer who makes the US Gearing-class destroyer in either 1/350 or 1/700 scale. This is going to be built as a gift for a former sailor who was stationed on one during the early 80s'. I'm a wargamer myself, so I assume that most of the same ...

Has anyone got a 70mm x 6mm pitch threaded barrel bung I could have? I have a 200 litre plastic barrel with two entry ports, a 2" BSP and a 70mm x 6 mm pitch, but the later is missing and I want to pump the antifreeze from my furnance and chiller into it for transport..

| Let's discuss rust! | 23 May 2007 17:32 GMT | 14 |
Rust on military vehicles is not much different than rust on any other iron or steel. There is no one paint color for rust, despite what Testors and other model paint manufacturers want you to believe..

| Milling question - surface finish | 23 May 2007 09:44 GMT | 3 |
I've got a Warco round column mill 3/4HP motor and belt driven. Given that I'm using a sharp cutter at appropriate feeds and cutter speeds, what causes a poor finish when up or down milling with the side of the cutter? Need to talk to speak to Warco really, but just maxed out ...

| Numberplates for British cars - pre-1963? | 23 May 2007 03:56 GMT | 1 |
Someone must have already been here. I'm looking for a font which matches the numberplates used on British cars up to 1963. There was more than one typeface used, I am just looking for something which is fairly typical. Hopefully someone else has already been here, if not I'll start ...

| Lathe Packing :( | 22 May 2007 09:00 GMT | 20 |
I followed a procedure I got from the 7x12 forum, briefly put a round bar in a chuck (3 jaw is ok) clock it near the chuck rotating the lathe by hand, average the difference between the high and low readings, move well down the bar and do it again adjust the packing
