1/48 YF-16/CCV24 Jun 2007 20:27 GMT2
Can anyone suggest which base kit/s to start with for a 1/48 YF-16/CCV
that is accurate to the original( the red, white and blue paint
scheme)?
That ARII/ONAKI kit in 1/48 doesn't seem to be available anymore.

Gloster Meteor III23 Jun 2007 21:28 GMT1
I would love to build a WWII-era Meteor, in 1/72nd
scale; and it seems that the old Airfix kit is the
only way to go.  Does anyone know of an on-line
collection of good reference photos, such as in a
3" screwless vice bargain?23 Jun 2007 20:06 GMT6
This type of vice has been highly recommended by mini-mill users. It's
similar to the 75mm "Pin type" vice at Chronos

only it has very useful slots at the sides for mounting. I couldn't find

Anyone got a copy of these handy? I just need the markings page. The beast
is almost finished and I know where all the major markings go but it has a
bunch of stencils and smaller decals that I'm not sure of.
You can just email it to the address in the header, it's a decoy to ...
Lifting A Lathe22 Jun 2007 19:51 GMT27
What's the recommended locations for lifting a lathe? I can remember seeing
pictures of them being lifted by headstock and tailstock as well as straps
under the bed but IIRC these where ways it shouldn't be lifted......

Which ME screw thread22 Jun 2007 19:45 GMT10
I have been building a little Stuart model and they seems to pick
rather odd threads, e.g. 5BA and 7BA. When it comes to the steam
unions it suggests 1/4" by 32tpi ME thread. Yet again its one I don't
have a die for (though I have 1/4" by 40). Is this Stuart encouraging
Bally German eBayers !!!!22 Jun 2007 19:15 GMT42
Managed to track down the elusive diesel injector for my Farymann 15D
engine - ebay in Germany, checked that the seller takes Paypal - it's
down as his favourite payment method - checked he was ok sending to
UK - he quotes a fair postage price. I win the auction, try to pay by
Metric 'thou'?22 Jun 2007 18:25 GMT67
A thousandth of an inch is clearly a useful unit. While I'm just old
enough to have been brought up using both imperial and metric, many of
the people I work with a much younger.
Does anyone here know what units are taught in schools now regarding
Holes.22 Jun 2007 17:05 GMT1
OK, I've got a kind-of solution to the hole-measuring problem - I've marked
the chuck with 10-degree intervals.  Being a 3-jaw chuck it already has
marks every 60 degrees, so it wasn't too much hassle to make more marks in
between.  The hole in question is not super-critical - ...
lathe chucks22 Jun 2007 16:09 GMT2
J&L have chucks and part-finished backplates for sale, including in the
latter category L-zero which fit the colchie student.
The backplates are by toolmex, and from the picture it has the L-zero
fitting, 6 counterbored holes and 3 threaded holes.  I imagine the 6 holes
