| Speed control on the 398 and 400 Dremel models | 02 Sep 2007 20:27 GMT | 1 |
my Dremel 398, like all Dremel 398's I guess, has what I'd define a lousy speed control: if e.g. I set the speed to 5000 rpm, and then put some strain on it, it's not capable of keeping the 5000 rpm set, but it will slow down to e.g. 3000 rpm. But then engine would be

| Mill spindle rattle question | 02 Sep 2007 17:36 GMT | 3 |
OK, this is a "Pinnacle Universal Mill" that I recently acquired, I'm guessing it is about 20 years old, BTW if anyone knows where I can get a set of manuals much appreciated. Spindle is powered from a Jinshin 4 pole 1 hp 240 vac single phase

| Painting models with artist paints | 02 Sep 2007 16:28 GMT | 3 |
I just finished some test strips of a product I've recently found and the results are promising. It's called GAC 200. It increases adhesion and reduces the tack of artist paints for the application to rigid and smooth surfaces. The test strips have a good finish, with no tack and

| Hardness Tester | 02 Sep 2007 10:49 GMT | 17 |
I have a need for a hardness tester, and was thinking of making the Dave Lammas design as published in ME in 1989 (August/September IIRC). Has anyone here made this design? any suggestions, improvements, traps to avoid?

| More Ebay Madness | 02 Sep 2007 09:18 GMT | 17 |
I have been after a small circular saw for modelmaking for a while, and saw one on ebay. It was a Proxxon KS230, which would have been ideal. I watched in disbelief as the second hand one sold for £98, plus £10 postage!! This was particularly odd as they can be bought

| M&W micrometers | 01 Sep 2007 22:52 GMT | 2 |
Anyone know of a distributor of Moore and Wright tools? preferably in Nottingham area or on the net? I assume you can't order tools directly from M&W and their website is not showing distributors as the section is still under construction.

| Question about clock pendulums | 01 Sep 2007 18:50 GMT | 5 |
I'm just completing my first clock, and puzzling over pendulums. Does anyone in the group know the significance of the weight of a clock pendulum bob? I know that the ideal pendulum has a weightless string and a point mass, so the heavier and denser the bob on a real

For the "regulars" on this board, I have 4each 16 piece hobby knife sets (like Xacto but not that brand). It includes 3 handles and extra blades. The price is "free" to anyone who needs them and might be a little tight on cash. US only (I can't afford to pay freight abroad

Been away for a while; I'm back with a question. Does anyone know where I can find a clear parts sprue for a 1/32 Revell P-38? Baring that, how about just a canopy? Anyone know if this kit went with Revell Germany or R/M/Hobbico?

| London - Manchester - Edinburgh - London | 01 Sep 2007 09:57 GMT | 13 |
It's likely that I've got to travel from the soft underbelly of the Thames Valley to Manchester and onto Edinburgh in the next couple of weeks. I'll be travelling with an empty estate car so if anyone has anything not too large and smelly I may be able to move it either

| Stress relieving EN1A (?) | 01 Sep 2007 09:22 GMT | 7 |
I'm making a Stuart Turner (type) triple expansion steam engine, and need some advice please. The crank shaft is about 9" long, and the throw is 1/2". My first attempt to manufacture out of solid (but with balance weights added separately) was with a piece of steel of unknown
