Japanese-style English instructions08 Feb 2008 23:51 GMT7
We've all dealt with peculiarities in Japanese instruction sheets for
models (the Bandai 1/48th scale tank ones were a riot when it came to
describing the vehicle in question's history, with one line I remember
being: "Allies were terrified in horror of Tiger and Panther tanks")  ...

The Space Shuttle Endeavour has an orbiter vehicle designation of

Mill table accuracy08 Feb 2008 17:18 GMT2
I thought out of idle curiosity I would measure the accuracy of my Warco A1S

to adjust the gib strips. Over about 18" movement I had 3 thou error on the
X movement. Is this typical? mediocre? bad? good? ...

Milling Chamfer Tools08 Feb 2008 00:44 GMT9
I was wondering in wood routing you get a range of chamfer tools with
various radii. Is it possible to get similar cutters for a milling machine.
I want to put a round chamfer on a piece of square aluminium and this would
be the easiest way.
Please help - True Details B-17 cockpit07 Feb 2008 22:51 GMT2
OK, I might be a little dense, but I'm having problems figuring out the
instructions for the True Details B-17 cockpit (TD48509).  Specifically, how
do the walls (parts L, M, S, & T) get installed?  The instructions (what a
misnomer) are very vague, and the parts do not match the ...

Painting a lathe07 Feb 2008 10:40 GMT5
I have an old Lorch-Schmidt lathe from 1920s which needs repainting
(it's been rather roughly painted in the intervening years).
I don't know much about painting other than that it is much harder than
it looks to get good results! Looking at some similar lathes in good

The Lockheed C-5A and C-5B Galaxy are variants of C-5, a strategic

the US Air Forces bases. The C-5C was a specially modified variant for
transporting large cargo.
Good camera for modeling06 Feb 2008 23:28 GMT5
My wife gave me a Nikon D40X for Christmas. I find it is a great
camera for modeling. It came with a Nikor 18-55mm lens, which I find a
good lens for model photography.  Many macro lenses are macro only on
the longest (most zoomed) focal length.  This little lens is macro at
