Hot air gun / blow torch21 Mar 2008 23:19 GMT6
Slightly at a tangent to Model Engineering but worth a try.
I need a hot air gun to shrink some  'heat shrink' onto some cables.
No power available.  Not feasible to use a genny.  I thought of
adapting a gas blowtorch to provide heat at the nozzle instead of a

Horse-drawn US Army Artillery21 Mar 2008 10:52 GMT11
Hi all. I was copying a movie from 1934 this morning. Walter Huston
starred in "Keep 'em Rolling", a story, based on a factual history of
the 16th Field Artillery during the First World War. In fact the
movies used the services of the members of the 16th, stationed at Fort

I'm looking to buy some indexable tooling and would appreciate some
advice. Initially I just want a 10 mm RH tool - but what sort of tips?
Near-square, diamond, triangular, round? I know tips come with 4-letter
codes, but what 4 letters should I be looking for?

Aircraft of Howard Hughes20 Mar 2008 13:15 GMT9
I did some biographical reading on Howard Hughes while sitting on the
beach in Ixtapa that last couple of weeks.  I thought it might be an
interesting project to model all the aircraft developed under Howard
Hughes watch.  Would such a thing be even possible??
3/8" ground steel bar (silver steel)20 Mar 2008 12:02 GMT6
Anyone got any spare or have a cheap source? Doesn't have to be silver steel
as I'm not hardening it but that's the most common steel in ground form. It
does have to be cock on 3/8" though. J&L want a tenner a metre for it which
strikes me as bloody crazy. I know steel has gone ...

It just doesn't seem fair20 Mar 2008 04:23 GMT7
Went to the local quarterly kit collectors show yesterday. The wife
ended up picking out three kits (for me to build) & I only got one. It's
been like this for quite a few shows now. I think she likes the show
better than me. I'll never get rid of my stack. Life's tough.
