I'm looking for a reasonable (eg en9 or en24 or so, something better than mild steel - it's for a collet chuck) steel blank, 80 mm diameter and 40 mm long. Any ideas?

| Making taps and dies | 06 May 2008 22:26 GMT | 4 |
I'm looking for a 9.25mm x 0.5mm tap(s) and die set, and I don't think I will be able to buy one for less than £100. Making a tap is doable, especially as a roll-form tap will do, but how practical is it to make a die?

I originally commented that my toolholders were not as hard as I would have expected, I now see further problems. The toolholders do not fit to the toolpost as one would expect. There are two "Vees" on the toolpost. Some of the toolholders do not

| Boxford help please | 06 May 2008 01:10 GMT | 6 |
I have to move a boxford lathe soon. I only have a photo of it so far. I think it is BUD mk2 model with a lever near the changewheel cover for changing speeds. The symbol on the front shows a cone pulley. So if it is a belt drive how does the speed change mechanism work.
