Source for good steel blank?07 May 2008 21:16 GMT3
I'm looking for a reasonable (eg en9 or en24 or so, something better
than mild steel - it's for a collet chuck) steel blank, 80 mm diameter
and 40 mm long.
Any ideas?
Wanted: small quantity of brass chippings or sawdust Leeds area07 May 2008 19:23 GMT1
Does anyone have any of the above please?
I'm after a samll quantity (perhaps an egg-cup full, but wouldn't refuse
more) of small brass chips perhaps 2mm square or smaller, or even
brass sawdust.

Making taps and dies06 May 2008 22:26 GMT4
I'm looking for a 9.25mm x 0.5mm tap(s) and die set, and I don't think I
will be able to buy one for less than £100. Making a tap is doable,
especially as a roll-form tap will do, but how practical is it to make a
die?
(slightly OT) copper disc source?06 May 2008 13:46 GMT25
For culinary purposes, I wish to make
a heat diffuser for my gas hob.
For low heat simmering, gas is not ideal;
you need a head diffuser, or (very) thick
Cleaning Trefolex ???06 May 2008 13:27 GMT12
I have an old tin of Trefolex cutting compound which has a lot of
metal chips in it  - presumably from dipping the tap in directly. I
was wondering if heating it till liquid and straining (stirring as it
cooled) it would be bad idea ???

Chinese Dickson Toolholder06 May 2008 06:37 GMT15
I originally commented that my toolholders were not as hard as I would
have expected, I now see further problems.
The toolholders do not fit to the toolpost as one would expect.
There are two "Vees" on the toolpost. Some of the toolholders do not
Boxford help please06 May 2008 01:10 GMT6
I have to move a boxford lathe soon. I only have a photo of it so far. I
think it is BUD mk2 model with a lever near the changewheel cover for
changing speeds. The symbol on the front shows a cone pulley.
So if it is a belt drive how does the speed change mechanism work.
