Slightly OT: Current "Collectible Automobile".17 Jun 2008 07:07 GMT15
While it is a 1/1 car magazine there is an article in this issue on
Mr. Ross Cousins.  He's an artist who has illustrated many cars for
brochures and even contributed some styling to various autos.  After
retiring from GM he did some painting for MPC boxart - most specifically
RFI: Using Baking Soda & Super Glue to Fill Seams?17 Jun 2008 02:50 GMT11
...I've been hit with a question from someone regarding filling seams
on an old Aurora car kit whose fit isn't that great - in fact, it
sucks worse than some shoddy garage resin kits I've seen - and the
friend who hit me up on it has admitted he's not that good with
Counterboring and reaming17 Jun 2008 00:34 GMT19
Beginner questions I'm afraid ...
I need to counterbore for an M4 cap-head screw (the head is about 8m
across). I don't have a M4 counterbore. I do have an 8mm end-mill and a
8mm slot-drill. Which of these is the better to use? Would the hol
Making Gear Cutters  (Ivan Laws Book)16 Jun 2008 23:34 GMT10
I've been reading Ivan Law's book on making gear cutters and he described
the design and build of a "button cutter" to generate an approimation of the
involute profile.
Mr. Law sets out two tables of design information for the cutters,  one
Greaseless Polishing Compound16 Jun 2008 17:59 GMT4
I bought some greaseless polishing compound awhile ago & have only just
come to use it. I've got 80, 150 & 300 but I can only get a mop to take
the 80 !
I'm using coloured stitch mops, when applying the 150 / 300 bars it just
Plus one for ALDI and nearly minus one for ALDI16 Jun 2008 13:10 GMT8
Did a bit of concrete work this weekend. Used the ALDI Chinese copy demolition
hammer for the first time.

Very impressed! It may just be that it's new and the steel hasn't been
Resin - What's the big deal?16 Jun 2008 05:36 GMT11
I have just bought an Italeri AS42 Sahariana.  One of it's selling points
are resin parts for the engine and the two figures.
This is my first resin experience and I'm struggling to see what the fuss is
all about.
Guiilotine wanted urgently15 Jun 2008 22:16 GMT1
Hi, hope some one can help.
Would anyone close to Nottinghamshire happen to have a  metal cutting
guillotine for sale for a reasonable price?
Needs to be a 4ft wide cut, and in good working order.  Prefer an Edwards
3-Phase Distribution from Phase Converter15 Jun 2008 19:11 GMT9
I should be shortly be installing my Bantam & 540 in the workshop
after a long delay, but have a question about getting power to them.
I have a Transwave static converter (3Kw/4Hp) which will be running
the Bridgy in addition to the above, but obviously not all at the same
Stuart petrol engines, anyone ?15 Jun 2008 19:01 GMT4
I was at the council dump at Exmouth on Friday. This is one of those
places that accept junk and turn it into gold, then sell it. They had
a pair of Stuart magneto engines, both slightly disassembled. I think
there was one magneto missing and maybe a few other parts.
Misprint?15 Jun 2008 12:53 GMT4
Interesting to see that the "Cobra" lathe advertised on the back page
of the current MEW has a 150HP motor.

Removing a reluctant chuck from an ML714 Jun 2008 18:32 GMT17
Following the saga of the broken back gears on an ML7, I'll admit using them
to remove chucks on mine.
After engaging back gear I put the chuck key in place and give it a whack
with my hand.
Horizontal Steam Engine Problem - how does it work?14 Jun 2008 09:13 GMT7
I've been asked to sort out a model of a lancashire mill engine and I can't
for the life of me understand how it was meant to work.
The engine is a single cylinder steam engine with the steam chest on top of
the cylinder.   Instead of the usual single slide valve arrangement  (a ...

Use for 75mm Pak Carraige?14 Jun 2008 04:41 GMT3
I needed the 75 cannon for a parts missing 38t tank version that
needed it. Got both Italeri kits free at  different swap meets.  Any
suggestions what I can do with the perfectly good 75mm pak carraige
with no gun?
