Diskoplan21 Jul 2008 04:12 GMT6
I'm making the Mando Models Suchanov Diskoplan, a cute little round
wing glider.
The kit includes a poor quality air-to-air photo. I googled it and
found two good color photos. Problem is: different aircraft.

Rechargeable battery question20 Jul 2008 23:49 GMT12
The battery pack on my ultrasonic thickness tester is dying.
It consists of six AA NiCd cells strapped together.
I went to Maplins this morning planning to get some new cells, but
virtually all their rechargeables are now Nimh or what they call
Thermite process in action20 Jul 2008 23:33 GMT5
I see some interesting pictures of the thermite process in use to weld
the tramway sections on the steam railway through Portmadoc. See this

I thought it was done in place, but this looks like it takes place in a
Attn Car Modelers - Help with Seams with Large Chrome Pieces  !!       Monogram Big T20 Jul 2008 23:28 GMT15
Am poking around the bags of parts in the 2005 repop of the Monogram
"Big T".  Lots and lots of chrome pieces. Curious as to how to make
the seam for the large chrome tank a little less noticeable,  There
are at least 5 bags of chrome with this 17" monster.

P-40 Squadron in Action Question20 Jul 2008 17:05 GMT7
Was looking at it last night prior to finshing another ceiling hanger for baby
girl. She really likes the Spitfire. (She's only 4 and can't wait to help me
build, last night she wanted me to teach her to airbrush!)
Anyway on the back cover they show a AVG P-40 that is listed as ...
Lost in Space Pod  Cybermodeler Review - Pathetic Instructions20 Jul 2008 15:26 GMT2
Cyber has the same comments I have about the Seaview. Moebius
instructions really suck.  When I wrote them about the Seaview
instructions they said I was the only one to complain.  Now they
screwed up the Pod instructions.  Hard to see images, no real idea of
Helical Gears - Ivan Law20 Jul 2008 11:12 GMT3
Ivan Law published a set of revised gear cutter buttons in Model Engineer
June 1990. In the article he mentioned he omitted the cutting of Helical
Gears from his book 'Gears and Gear Cutting'.  There is hint in the article
of  the possibility of further articles on the subject of ...
Armor: How to create zimmerit19 Jul 2008 12:53 GMT1
I would like to know how to go about creating zimmerit on a tank
model.  I was thinking of using 2 part epoxy (plumbers) putty, but it
dries hard and I wanted to chip some off.  The other option was going
with filler putty, but since it bonds to styrene, I can't conceivably
Painting with Metalizer18 Jul 2008 23:35 GMT2
Hi all - I have a question. I have a bunch of old Model Masters
Metalizer Bottles that I bought years ago when a craft store folded.
(25¢ a bottle) I never got around to using them because all the
bottled plainly state "For Airbrush Only". Recently, I got hold of a
Guy Fawkers printer for sale - 1p18 Jul 2008 22:55 GMT5
Oh dear the rag and bone man John Bunt/Guy Fawkes/Bunty has a long way
to go to get that 37k together that he still owes the court. One bid of

Drilling the hard stuff18 Jul 2008 09:53 GMT9
I need to drill a 3mm (or 1/8) hole in 58-62 Rockwell steel. Can't
anneal it.
Will carbide do? Do I need to use diamond?
If so, sources for a suitable drill? The hole must be pretty accurate,
Making a replacement gear for thread dial indicator18 Jul 2008 09:16 GMT7
I'm currently fixing a number of issues on my recently acquired Colchester
Bantam 800 lathe; one of the problems I've found is that the gear on the
thread dial indicator has a tooth missing. I don't think that it's
repairable as it's some form of white metal (Mazak perhaps?) so I ...
