What makes a tank "male" or "female"? Answered30 Nov 2008 23:57 GMT37
Someone asked in another thread, "What makes a tank "male" or
"female"?". I did not want the OP's thread to get hijacked so decided
to answer that question here.
WW1 British tanks were of three main types:

MEW and ME30 Nov 2008 03:24 GMT18
I see that David Clark the editor of MEW has now taken over the
editorship of ME as well.
Hopefully it may breath some fresh life into that magazine as it has
been going downhill rapidly of late.

I thought I would show off my efforts for your comments (cringe).
Over the past few years I have been designing and building a
variation on the Metalmaster. It is made from solid cast iron blocks
and standard mild steel sections to avoid making castings. The
Russian Armor Green Paint29 Nov 2008 19:36 GMT2
my Tamiya T-62A calls for Dark Green    but this model master russian
armor color looks anything but dark green.  I googled the group and
found nothing new since 2002.
Anyone know if the Model Master color is correct or should I go for a
Universal neat cutting oil29 Nov 2008 16:04 GMT14
Looking to source a drum of neat cutting oil, and would appreciate
comments from other users as to type / source / cost etc. Ideally I
want a 'one size fits all' solution to save carrying umpteen different
types.
Who's buying colelctions?28 Nov 2008 23:23 GMT4
Finally decided I need to unload this albatross. I've culled what I want to
keep and have bunches of armor, ships (wood and steel), aircraft and cars in
various scales. Looking at close to 3000 (well, 2500 at least) kits.
I called Hobby Station in Elizabethtown. Guy came up and ...
SEPECAT Jaguar Aerials Question28 Nov 2008 21:15 GMT2
I'm working on the Revell boxing of the Italeri Jaguar GR1A and I want
to finish it in the wrap-around green and grey scheme.  The kit gives
alternative blade aerials to fit on the fuselage spine just behind the
cockpit.  One of these is a single large aerial mounted centrally and

Origin of Morse Tapers series27 Nov 2008 21:24 GMT25
Please forgive me if this has been bashed out before, but I've been
thinking again (Oh NO! they cried).
For years I've wondered about the series of angles of the MT tapers. I
thought the wierd spread of angles might have derived from some esoteric

Accurate pillar drill26 Nov 2008 22:10 GMT1
Looking for a better pillar drill (perhaps with an XY moveable table,
but ..) for more accurate work. Don't need huge, eg 12mm capacity will
do fine and bench not floor, but do need _accurate_.
Got maybe £200 to spend, more if needed or if offered a particularly
Hobby Lobby...26 Nov 2008 02:10 GMT8
Went to the local HL today after seeing on the website that they're having
a 30% off sale on plastic models.  Upon further inspection many of the
model kits had new price stickers added.  Buyer Beware.

Milling problem25 Nov 2008 22:39 GMT19
I have a Dore-Westbury milling machine which is in good condition, and
allowing for its light construction, has generally given me good
results.  However, I had a problem recently when I needed to do some
heavier work than usual. I needed to cut some 5/16 slots in a 1/2 inch
