Chuck question28 Feb 2009 12:05 GMT3
I need a chuck fairly quick for a Denford Cyclone cnc lathe. Whilst waiting
for a decent one, and hopefully a hydraulic one,  I may go for the one

The front mounting suits the machine, but ask if anyone has any experience
Ballbars27 Feb 2009 19:15 GMT16
'noon all,
A seemingly simple thing: Where can I buy a Ballbar?
I need a 300mm (ish) ballbar, and I have a feeling this should be an
off the shelf item (like gauge blocks),
Tail colors for USN prewar carrier aircraft27 Feb 2009 12:56 GMT2
I've seen several references to colors being assigned to carriers.
Black and green were assigned to the Lexington and the Saratoga, I
think.  But I have never seen anything except notes in captions.
Does anyone know of a list of the colors and when they were assigned?

Speeds and Feeds, getting an excellent surface finish in BDMS26 Feb 2009 21:37 GMT10
I'm turning a conrod from a BDMS square bar.  The round part will be vary
from 6 - 8mm over its length. It's fat in the middle.
I'm using the topslide for the taper,   bad mistake as I've denied myself
access to fine feed the tool.
new chuck25 Feb 2009 19:23 GMT12
I'd like to draw upon the collective wisdom of the you all. I've just
bought a direct mouning (no back plate) 6" 4 jaw independent chuck for
my Super 7 and am far from happy with it. With a decent quality test
bar dialed in at the jaws, there is a good 1/8" run out at 12" from
Parting Clearance25 Feb 2009 14:48 GMT37
I have made a fair amount of progress on parting off since I last asked

the last quarter inch as the tool wasn't long enough) and I've parted
off 3/4 inch steel under power crossfeed.

Small lathe?23 Feb 2009 18:34 GMT17
I am not into model engineering, but I do occasionally find I have a
need for a small lathe - so I'm looking at what is available.
In particular I'm looking at this one on Ebay - item # 360110596015
or for a write up on the unit
re-cutting a 5mm thread?23 Feb 2009 10:34 GMT13
This is kinda OT, but this group has more knowledge of small threads
that any other I can think of.
I have a fairly-stripped, threaded hole (mudguard fitting eye, if you care)
on my bicycle. If I tighten the bolt just-a-little-too-much
I need one 2.5mm x 8mm grubscrew23 Feb 2009 07:21 GMT4
The subject says it all <G>
I am building a "Coffee Cup Stirling" and have everything but the
subject line. Search my bolt collection and whilst I can find M2 and
M3 I have no M2.5. My local nuts and bolts man does not have any.

Having skimmed though most of the current MEW, I read the article on Buying
and renovating used machinery with interest.
I'm somewhat worried that there is an attitude that regards the renovation of
