Magnifiers on spectacles30 Apr 2009 22:48 GMT26
Anyone using these or anything similar for fine work? Any advice or comments
welcomed. Much more expensive than the "visor" type, of course.

Bambi Air Compressor30 Apr 2009 18:51 GMT15
I have a Bambi BB24V silent compressor which has served me well until it
developed an air leak in the pressure switch that controls the motor. The
leak is somewhere in the switch but I cannot locate exactly where.
Does anyone know if these switches can be serviced? If I dismantle ...
Pickling30 Apr 2009 14:36 GMT1
I bought some dry acid pickling salts from Chronos for cleaning up
stainless items after silver soldering. I appreciate that, even at
240gms/litre concentration, this is a pretty weak solution, but I'm
still a bit disappointed with the results - I had hoped that it would
Myford quadrant - too small, are larger ones available?30 Apr 2009 10:03 GMT9
Trying to cut 11.5tpi on my Myford Super 7. According to the book, I
need to drive a 75tooth gear from a 65tooth gear, but the slot in the
quadrant isn't big enough to allow this. Are there longer quadrants
available aftermarket?
Fly cutters and face cutter29 Apr 2009 23:04 GMT3
Does a face cutter produce a much better finish than a fly cutter? Th

Stevenson's 5C spin indexer29 Apr 2009 21:23 GMT22
I'm thinking of getting something to allow me to cut squares an
hexagons on the ends of rods using my (small) mill.
The spin indexer about 2/3 of the way down the page at this URL look

Myford Super 7 Tumbler sleeve gear retaining screw28 Apr 2009 18:11 GMT2
I managed to shear said screw off (part A1999) and am reluctant to pay
£8 for another one from Myford. Can anyone tell me what pitch/diameter
the screw is and how necessary it is to have a hollow one? Doesn't
seem like a very critical part (and so glad I managed to get the
Ballscrew lubrication27 Apr 2009 19:54 GMT7
Does one lubricate ballscrews? With what?

Machining nylony rubber or rubbery nylon27 Apr 2009 18:41 GMT4
I've some rollers of a rubbery or nylon consistency that
came out of an old printer and I wished to cut a slot in them.
(Originally used as part of the paper-feed mechanism)
Trouble is, as soon as I apply any cutting force (Knife, saw,
Stable wood surface?27 Apr 2009 17:17 GMT7
I'm building a hot-wire foam cutter, and want to use a wooden mount/base
board of some type, about 5 feet by 2 feet.
What's the most dimensionally-stable material to use? MDF, OSB, ply,
chipboard, something else?
Couplings for CNC27 Apr 2009 12:43 GMT6
There seem to be two types of motor-screw couplings for CNC - Oldham
couplings where there is a sliding disk, and a type whose name I don't
know with spiral cuts in them.
Both seem to be very expensive for what you get!
Mitutoyo KL DRO instructions27 Apr 2009 10:44 GMT3
Can anyone help with the above?
I've fitted the equipment from a lathe onto a mill, so need to change
the radius/diameter parameter.
In theory I do have the instructions somewhere, but haven't seen them
