own flight simulator and was building everything from
Avatar Movie Equipment21 Feb 2010 10:52 GMT10
Just got back from seeing the movie "Avatar" and I have to ask, is
anyone making or plan to make any of the harware from the film? This
would include the Battle Walker, the ersatz helicopter, the shuttle
and the, well the flying fortress for want of a better term. Figures?
New Tamiya Spitfire IX - ideas wanted21 Feb 2010 07:11 GMT7
RE.  the recent Tamiya Spitfire IX, could someone recommend a
resource, (print, web or where ever), that would have some unusual
colour profiles for that mark? As much as possible I'd like to build
it straight OOB but would like to do something other than the
Our Fascination With German Military20 Feb 2010 04:53 GMT4
This one is worth reading. http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/LB20Df01.html
American blitzkrieg
The United States military's infatuation with the German military has
led to it seeing war as a creative science, not a man-made disaster,
High Density Metal?18 Feb 2010 20:28 GMT17
I'm  just planning my next project which calls for the use of High Density
Metal,  which has a specific gravity of 17 and is apparently tough to
machine.   It's used as counterbalance weights in a crankshaft web.    The
weights will be 6mm diameter bullets inserted into the crank ...

Axis-following in drilling17 Feb 2010 17:48 GMT12
Some time back someone posted a link to a video showing a chap drilling
a hole in a thin brass bar in a lathe.
Iirc he used a chaser to make a cone-shaped cut in the end of the bar,
then used a drill held in his fingers to make the hole. It was a very
Glueing query17 Feb 2010 17:24 GMT9
I need to glue a stack of 40+ brass and steel pieces. They will be
pulled together with three tie bars. They are a bit finicky to get
lined up so I need a reasonably long wet time. I also need a "thin"
adhesive as I do not want a tolerance build up.
Revell 1/32 F-15 Eagle $30-35 ????17 Feb 2010 12:30 GMT2
If this price is right, I can see a squadron of them hanging from the
garage...  You can get 4-5 of them for the price of the Tamiya kit.
Very, very tempting...

Thread chaser for immersion heater17 Feb 2010 09:58 GMT12
The local brewery uses immersion heaters in the hot liquor tank. This runs
at about 78 C so develops a fair amount of limescale. Any idea where we
might find a 2 1/4 bsp thread chaser to clean up the threads when replacing
elements? (£300 for a "proper" tap is a bit of an ...
