Calculating the tensile strength of an M3 brass thread28 Sep 2010 07:45 GMT10
I'm planning to make a "watch-key" tuner for a replica 1770s "guitarr".

I keep seeing the DVDs for this advertised on the cable channels and yet

Would the group feel that this is too big for model type work? First
project would probably be a small IC engine typically of the Jan
Taps + Dies + Threads24 Sep 2010 20:38 GMT3
Trying to do a very simple job.  I have threaded a length of brass tubing
with an HSS 1/4 x 40tpi die.  I have two bags of nuts one from supplier A
and one form supplier B.  Nuts "A" perfect.  Nuts "B" far too tight to be of
sensible use.   I made a  half nut "C" from some brass ...

Fun with Grub Screws18 Sep 2010 18:55 GMT3
The engine I'm building requires some short 7BA grub screws only around 6 or
7 threads.   All I could find from the usual suppliers were 1/4 inch which
are far too long.   I've managed to cut them down reliably by using a single

my warbirds. It involves small chrome covered magnets and small ball
bearings. I need suggestions on gluing the magnet to the clear plastic

--Have reached a point where I need a lathe with greater capacity
(in terms of diameter that can be held in a chuck) than my Super 7B. I'm
curious what others have adopted as a 'standard' larger lathe: is there any
concensus?
