Drilling & Tapping01 Dec 2008 23:32 GMT18
Hello, I need to drill & tap an M4 0.7 x 15mm hole in the ends of a few high
tensile 8.8 steel bolts.
I've been using a 3.2mm drill followed by a HSS tap from a cheap box set
with limited success, it's taking approx 1/2 hr each hole.
Modelling time and retirement01 Dec 2008 23:09 GMT33
I've always accepted the fact that wjhen I retire, I'll get a lot more
modelling done. However, I have to question that assumption.
For the past couple of years, I have worked fewer hours than previously and
so I had a fair amount of time on my hands. It was bliss - like being

Keeping an outdoor workshop dry01 Dec 2008 21:34 GMT9
Hello, I'm a newbie here so please don't jump down my throat. Now that
I'm retired I want to set up a dedicated workshop. The Management says I
can't have any more hobby space indoors, so my options are either to use
my single brick build garage or erect a wooden shed. Having a ...

Hawker Hunter Intake Colour Question01 Dec 2008 03:41 GMT11
I am about to fit the wings onto the Revell 1/72 Hunter F6 and I now
realise that I don't know what colour to paint the inside surfaces of
the air intakes.  I need to do this before I fit the wings.  Does
anyone know what colour they should be?
J & S 540 grinder question01 Dec 2008 00:56 GMT5
Noticed yesterday that the old J&S 540 surface grinder, which doesn't get
used much, was acting strange. When the cross table traverse feed is in use,
it slows down the x axis power feed?
I checked, and topped up the oil, so apart from that I am at a loss.
What makes a tank "male" or "female"? Answered30 Nov 2008 23:57 GMT37
Someone asked in another thread, "What makes a tank "male" or
"female"?". I did not want the OP's thread to get hijacked so decided
to answer that question here.
WW1 British tanks were of three main types:
Brazing30 Nov 2008 22:14 GMT16

About fifty years ago I remember using a brazing torch that was
fuelled by town gas and compressed air.
Recently I was doing a job where my largest brazing torch, fuelled by

Looking for a calculator30 Nov 2008 20:45 GMT17
As per subject. I want one for the workshop with big buttons and a large
display so i can see it without diving for my specs (mildly longsighted)
Ideally I'd operate this in a ploy back to keep out oil and swarf.
Must be able to to do squares/roots and basic trig functions.
MEW and ME30 Nov 2008 03:24 GMT18
I see that David Clark the editor of MEW has now taken over the
editorship of ME as well.
Hopefully it may breath some fresh life into that magazine as it has
been going downhill rapidly of late.

I thought I would show off my efforts for your comments (cringe).
Over the past few years I have been designing and building a
variation on the Metalmaster. It is made from solid cast iron blocks
and standard mild steel sections to avoid making castings. The
Universal neat cutting oil29 Nov 2008 16:04 GMT14
Looking to source a drum of neat cutting oil, and would appreciate
comments from other users as to type / source / cost etc. Ideally I
want a 'one size fits all' solution to save carrying umpteen different
types.
Who's buying colelctions?28 Nov 2008 23:23 GMT4
Finally decided I need to unload this albatross. I've culled what I want to
keep and have bunches of armor, ships (wood and steel), aircraft and cars in
various scales. Looking at close to 3000 (well, 2500 at least) kits.
I called Hobby Station in Elizabethtown. Guy came up and ...
