BR Standard buffer heads04 Oct 2003 23:09 GMT2
I just received my Bachmann BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4T today.  It has oval
buffer heads, which I thought was quite strange. I was always under the
impression that oval buffer heads were only used on extremely long engines
to prevent buffer interlock on curves.
Headlamp question04 Oct 2003 21:41 GMT3
Does anyone know when BR started fitting their locomotives with the very
bright headlights? Photographic evidence is giving me conflicting facts.

PDA Software?04 Oct 2003 21:31 GMT7
Is there any software out there for train related stuff? It would be cool to
keep track of train items, costs, versions etc... And be able to have it all
at your finger tips while at shows...
Thanks, Jon.
loco coal04 Oct 2003 21:20 GMT14
I've been looking at pics of engines for most of the day and been amazed at
the size of the lumps of coal carried in some tenders (GWR). I'd always
believed that they used lumps not to much bigger than the stuff we used to
put on the fire at home, but some of the lumps on the ...

Hornby Rocket04 Oct 2003 18:07 GMT4
Has anyone got experience of these locos? You see I got one recently, it
needed a replacement gas tank but otherwise is in working order. However
when I follow the instructions Hornby provided to the letter, it steams,
smoke come out the chimney and nothing else much happens. The ...
Different train numbers04 Oct 2003 13:54 GMT3
Whilst out at liverpool i bought several cheppo locos. Some of them are the
same train no. e.g: 44217 and 44217. As you can see they are both the same
and dont come in any other no. I was just wondering if there is any way in
which i can change this no. to something different. If so ...
Q: Use Krylon instead of DullCote?04 Oct 2003 12:44 GMT6
Since I have not yet taken the plunge (financial or skill-wise) into
airbrushing, my weathering get done with chalks and drybrushing.
DullCote (so I've heard, and experienced a bit myself) tends to "hide"
chalks so that you have to over-weather, and guess how much it will

Can some kind soul have a look at the following pic:

If you look at where the pavement meets the roadside you can see
barrier type railings to keep pedestrians and road traffic apart.
Laying low04 Oct 2003 04:32 GMT3
I haven't been posting much lately - taking it easy and doing less.  I'm up
and around, but still slowed down.
Happy railroading

life-like dummies04 Oct 2003 00:55 GMT3

pickups like the powered units do? if not, are pickups available as
parts? i'm assuming powered and non-powered frames are the same and
the pickups would be an easy drop-in. i want to convert a couple of
Thomas the Tank Engine and such in G Scale04 Oct 2003 00:54 GMT2
I am looking for the James the Red Engine in G Scale.  I know Lionel
produced this item several years ago.
Does anyone have an idea where I might purchase one?
Thank you
which is better peco or tortise?04 Oct 2003 00:12 GMT13
I've been replacing atlas solenoids with tortise as they burn out.
However, since I am also going to be replacing tounouts with peco, I
wonder if the peco switch motor is as good or bettr than the tortise.
any comments comparing them?
Soundtraxx Tsunami04 Oct 2003 00:05 GMT19
This sounds interesting. Even has things like rod clank and water stop
sounds for steam and lots of stuff for diesels too. DCC or DC. Maybe QSI
sound got some competition going. Wonder what it will cost? Bruce
