I just set the fulcrum bar more or less in the center. I'm mounting under 1/2 inch homoste. I assume I want the spring to force the rail points together, but i wonder if there is another criteria?

i have all unlettered steam locomotives that i want to put my own railroad name on. i have the name but what size do i make the artwork ?? as in how high were the letters on most roads? in real life? am doing n scale locomotives. i am not doing anything super fancy was
