Selecting the Right Turnout?02 Oct 2003 16:33 GMT6
Often in MR, the layout plans call for specific switches for a given point
on the layout.  I imagine it's not important to have the specific brand they
suggest - but why do they specify an Atlas turnout at one point, then a Roco
or Walthers switch somewhere else?
Track tamping plans02 Oct 2003 15:46 GMT3
I'm looking for scale drawings and references for track tamping machines
operated on the british railway system. I don't have an extensive range of
magazine back issues as I've only recently returned to the hobby, so I would
be especially grateful to anyone who can offer scanned ...
Curved Points02 Oct 2003 15:14 GMT9
I have been planning a layout for my loft with no 2 and no 3 radius
curves and was intending to put some curved points in the layout aswell.
Although the layout will be predominantly British I do also want some
American and German engines. The Bachmann 4-8-2 Heavy Mountain is ...
Walthers Hot Metal Car [wheels]02 Oct 2003 14:37 GMT5
I was wondering if anyone has purchased the Walthers "Hot Metal Car"
[#932-3130] and/or the Walthers "Slag Car" [#932-3140].
Assuming that the supplied wheels are plastic, I would like to buy one
car of each design and replace the supplied plastic wheels with metal
Track planning/layout software02 Oct 2003 13:15 GMT19
Sorry if this has been covered recently; I've been lurking on this
group for a while, but haven't seen much on this subject.
I'm looking to buy a track planning software package, to run on a PC.
The layout will be N scale, using an open top / riser method of
HO TRIX BIG BOY02 Oct 2003 12:24 GMT26
Has anyone got the TRIX BIG BOY? I hear they run fantastic. There is one at the
local hobby store here (4013) and the price has been reduced again to $489.00.
I think this is a decent price, but that's still a chunk of change. I was just
wondering anyone else's opinon on them.
Hornby service sheets02 Oct 2003 12:20 GMT4
Can anyone help me? The latest issue of Model Rail quotes a web-site for 25
online service sheets, but that diverts me into the main Hornby site and I
cannot find these sheets anywhere.
Anyone point me in the right direction? (a direction that works, please)
Repair Help Needed - Atlas cars02 Oct 2003 08:06 GMT4
Hey Folks,
I could certainly use some assistance, advice, and/or suggestions on a
much needed fix to a number of our Atlas [HO Scale] cars. We have a
dozen of their short open hopper cars and two of their older PS2 covered
N-Scale Decoder Installation Soldering Station02 Oct 2003 04:31 GMT5
I'm looking for a good soldering station for installing
decoders in my N-scale locos.
I'm currently considering the Weller WLC-100; does anyone know if the
soldering tip will be fine enough?
GWR - AEC railcars/#22:02 Oct 2003 01:36 GMT4
Anyone have a website that they would care to share concerning this
railcar?
Had a Lima model several years ago, miss it badly.
Maybe, maybe not if it could be used as an interchange unit on a L.M.S.
fleischmann ho trains01 Oct 2003 22:54 GMT4
I have a basic Fleischmann train set consisting of a 040 steam engine, 2 x 4
wheel carriages and an oval of track. I am looking to expand my train set
and I am looking for second hand parts.
Am I better off getting more Fleischmann stuff or would I be better off
FAQ for Newbee01 Oct 2003 20:36 GMT2
I want to return my 1950's era Lionel train and accessories to working
order.  Is there a FAQ site for model railroads?  Is there a good reference
book for 027 and 0 gauge questions?  Help??

Off Topic - Postings to Usenet Groups by One.Tel  ISP01 Oct 2003 19:45 GMT8
Sorry to take up space but I am wondering if any other subscribers
using the One.Tel ISP are having trouble posting to uk.rec.models.rail
(and other Newsgroups) by Outlook Express (or any other method).
About every month, One.Tel seems to have a news server breakdown
Shunting fitted stock?01 Oct 2003 19:37 GMT12
Folks,
As title, how was this done? Specifically at lot of shunting engines were
unfitted but surely there were times when stock had to be moved around to
make up a train, thinking of the interwar period was there some device on
