Christmas Display26 Dec 2003 20:02 GMT3
Our model railroad club rents a basement from an area business.  We were
asked to set up a Christmas display in the front window for the holidays.
We set up a small HO layout, set to run more or less continuously, with
periodic 15 min "rest" breaks.  Apparently we made a mistake in ...

are plastic or metal. Very little information is provided on the
ROD 2-8-0-?26 Dec 2003 17:05 GMT14
Did I dream I saw a post somewhere stating Hornby have been seen on the
G.C.R measuring up their ROD 2-8-0?
An interesting choice if it is true and materialises. LNER, GWR, Early BR.
Late BR?
Look what the creeps at UP did.26 Dec 2003 16:11 GMT87
Go to the Kato website and look at their  (cool) new F3 units.  Note that
anything UP and UP heritage--Rio Grande, Western Pacific is asterisked with
"licensed UP product".  THEN, note that UP and UP heritage models are $5
higher than BNSF or BNSF heritage roads.  The greedy ...
Hooking up Transformer26 Dec 2003 14:28 GMT4
OK, I'm new.  I just bought an MTH Z-1000 transformer and have no clue
how/where to hook the wires from the track.  I have two MTH connector tracks
and have put them at opposite ends of my 11 ft. oval.  I'm running an O-gauge
Railking Challenger and 5 Premier passenger cars.  Do I ...
What color were water tank hoops?26 Dec 2003 14:12 GMT4
I'm scratchbuilding a water tank and just got stuck:  what color were the
hoops on the tank?  Were they painted black or were they just rust colored?
Also, does anyone know exactly how the Grandt Line hoop fasteners get
attached?  I keep staring at them and can't figure out how ...
Hornby Class 2426 Dec 2003 13:56 GMT2
I've got a Hornby class 24 set with wagons, controller and track. Looks in
good condition, has anyone any idea of a guide price I should put it on
Ebay? Are blue Hornby 24s rare?

ATSF: Fast Mail Express [car questions]26 Dec 2003 13:34 GMT8
I was hoping that some of you could list some of the cars one could
expect [plan for] on a Santa Fe "Fast Mail Express". If you could
include a few sources to purchase a specific car mentioned that'd be
most appreciated. Below are two examples that caught my attention. I am
John Olsen's Jerome and Southwestern of the 1980's26 Dec 2003 10:24 GMT4
Is anyone familiar with John Olsen's Jerome and Southwestern layout of
the 1980's?  That was THE layout that turned me on to model
railroading when I was a kid.  I have a book published by Kambalch
that shows the whoel thing from start to finish.  Olsen's talent was

Long Trains [layout space needed]26 Dec 2003 05:19 GMT9
Re: [HO Scale] Train lengths
I have been limitring my planning to trains under 10 cars in length due
to the space requirements.
How are you able to handle a train that exceeds 8 feet in length?

Roundhouse - 3600 series reefers26 Dec 2003 02:31 GMT3
I was looking at the images of the Roundhouse 50' reefer series in the
Walthers catalog. A visit to the MDC webpage proved useless. They
provide little information and no images of these cars.
