| a little OT - Unhappy events at Athearn Models | 31 Jan 2004 20:43 GMT | 284 |
Please excuse this rather large post. Also, I would ask forgiveness in posting to several inappropriate newsgroups. I can assure you that this is an extremely rare event and will not soon be repeated by me. If for no other reason than I do not want the

| Pullmans and Kadees again!! | 31 Jan 2004 20:07 GMT | 2 |
I just attached Kaddee 5 to a Pullman car as instructed on http://www.grovenor.dsl.pipex.com/pullman.htm but found that they are too high per the Kadee gauge. So I shimmed them down with a piece of plasticard to the right height and at the same time brought

| [Semi OT] Train I saw today | 31 Jan 2004 18:42 GMT | 7 |
Freezing my Behind off at West Brompton waiting for a City District line service I heard a loud rumble from behind me. Then, heading towards Clapham junction (that's platform 2), came two class 73s coupled together. One was running electric (lots of sparking around west Brompton) ...

| Track Directions on the Prototype | 31 Jan 2004 14:26 GMT | 36 |
Funny question from down under. In Sydney standard practice appears to be that a train runs on the left track when looking in the direction of travel in a situation where two tracks exist.

| Code 83 Switch Wiring | 31 Jan 2004 13:15 GMT | 6 |
Quick clarification: If I use plastic, insulated, rail joiners at the end of a Walthers Code 83 switch [on the frog rails] and I simply provide power to the switch from the single end using one pair of metal rail joiners,

| Heljan Hymek review | 31 Jan 2004 09:53 GMT | 17 |
Sorry if I have missed this. Did anyone see the review in Febs Model Rail? I have to admit that it showed me a few short comings with these locos! I have the green one and yes a red buffer beam would have looked nice.

| Toys or Models? | 31 Jan 2004 08:00 GMT | 92 |
Ran across and interesting point in another thread. The discussion was the UP 4% for logo charge and it wound up that one poster thought is was ok for "nerf" toy locos and Lionel locos to be charged that but not a "model" UP boxcar such as those in HO. Now, I used to model in

| Pullamans R too heavy? | 31 Jan 2004 07:27 GMT | 3 |
I have had lots of problems running my rake of 8 New Hornby Pullmans with the couplings giving way and derailments. However I ran a rake of 5 last night and sure enough they went for 2 + hours without a problem. I am guessing then that the extra weight of the

| What wheels? | 30 Jan 2004 19:50 GMT | 4 |
I have an Athearn unpowered B unit to go with my F3s and I want to replace the plastic wheels with metal ones. Does anyone have any recommendation for wheels?... I like the Proto 2000 wheels for my rolling stock but they, of course, are too small for the B unit.

| Strip Shingles | 30 Jan 2004 16:10 GMT | 6 |
Does anyone know of an online source for strip shingles used for Scratch building? My hobby shop has them back ordered and I can always use more. I'm looking for HO scale strip shingles (peel & stick, lick & stick, glue & stick, whatever).

I'm after a track plan of a small to medium sized goods yard that will permit some interesting shunting opportunities. Anyone know of any web links to good ideas? I'm modelling in 4mm. Cheers,
