Steam Engine Colors17 Feb 2004 14:46 GMT33
Maybe some can help on this. I know that many Baldwin locomotives delivered
in the early 1900's came with olive paint on the boilers. How about Rogers,
Cooke or Schenectady/Alco? I'm modeling a shortline who's equipment was well
maintained and had mainly Schenectadys with a few ...
Custom Sound Module for scenery needed17 Feb 2004 13:42 GMT8
I am planning a layout and I would like it to have specific sounds in
various portions (buildings, etc.).  Some would be periodically or
randomly triggered.  Others would be triggered by passing trains.  I
have the sounds I wish to use in MP3 format.  The layout will be HO
Bachmann caboose couplers17 Feb 2004 11:38 GMT1
I have lost a coupler from an N-scale  Bachmann ATSF caboose.  This is the
one with coupler pockets connected through two holes in the end platform.
Can these be replaced?  Or is it less expensive to just replace the caboose?

Rubber Tubing17 Feb 2004 06:14 GMT7
Just come up with another idea for my point motors that I'd like to try out.
I want to encase the whole motor in an airtight box - more details if it
works, but I need to get a push-pull brass rod through the outside of the
box. I think some concertenered rubber tube, one end fixed ...

Pulaski, VA or general area? There is the Twin County Model RR Club down in
Galax, and I am sure there are clubs in Roanoke, but I am about halfway in
between those two locations nearly an hour away from either...
good DCC website?17 Feb 2004 02:16 GMT4
I'm just getting back into the hobby after a break of many years.  I've
picked up bits and pieces of info on DCC.  Can anyone recommend a website
with a thorough and up to date discussion of DCC options?
I see that many manufacturers are beginning to offer locomotives with DCC
Model Railoader magazine17 Feb 2004 00:05 GMT3
When I was in my early teens, in the 50s, my father built an HO setup around the
basement wall. Great fun to help him build the track.
Anyway, he made from scratch a brass steam locomotive. He didn't have a lathe so
used a hand saw and pin vise to fashion the cab, boiler attachments ...
47583 livery question16 Feb 2004 22:56 GMT2
Hi fellow modellers,
Could anyone tell me why 47583 caried a curious variation on the Large
Logo blue livery in 1981? A picture can be viewed on John Turners site:

celuloce thinners!16 Feb 2004 22:12 GMT11
I'm trying to find a barrier coat to protect the decals on my gressley
coaches that's impervious to celluloce thinners.  I'm spraying the coaches
with a tinted laquer to give them a more realistic teak finish and then
cutting back over the decals with thinners on a fine paintbrush.  ...
Lionel Challenger Problems?16 Feb 2004 21:24 GMT4
I am very interested by the new Lionel Challenger in HO.  I've read the
notices on this board warning of interference in the valve gear.  Would like
to hear from other early purchasers who can either confirm the problem or if
you have good running examples.
N Gauge Class 86?16 Feb 2004 19:50 GMT7
Do any N Gauge manufacturers currently produce a ready to run class 86? I
know that Lima used to produce one, but I'd like to find a new one if
possible!?
