adhesive for ballasting11 Apr 2004 20:42 GMT20
I keep reading that you mustn't use PVA for ballasting because it sets rock
hard and transmits noise. We're supposed to use "artists' matte medium" or
"acrylic matte medium". For example Iain Rice on page 147 of the January
Model Railroader, or Wolf Kirchmeir in a posting here on 7 ...
MBTA Purple11 Apr 2004 17:38 GMT2
I am painting a diesel in the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation
Authority) color scheme. Does anyone have a formula for the purple. I
tried Microscale decal purple trim sheets but I don't like the effect.

Satin/semi gloss clear coat revisited11 Apr 2004 00:59 GMT3
Greetings, Many readers suggested mixing dull and gloss clear coat overcoats
when I was asking if anyone made a semi gloss.  Since I didn't want to do that
I kept looking.  I thought I would let the group know I found a satin clear
coat made by Model Master.  Their number is 1959 ...

I've been reading the group for a time now, and being a newcomer, I have
lots of questions, which I am answering one at a time with help from clubs,
friends reading this group, and Google. One thing I cannot find out is: on
my simple N gauge layout (oval with three spurs, and I ...
Spectrum DCC sound install10 Apr 2004 15:17 GMT1
I have a Spectrum 'high boiler' 4-6-0.  This is the 'painted/undec'
version.   The tender is short with a coal bunker(appears to look a lot
like the 'Russian' 2-10-0 tender.  Has anyone installed a Soundtraxx
decoder in one of these?  I am thinking that the B2100LC may just fit in

novice modeller with ambitions of controlling my future layout with DCC.
However I am finding problems sourcing a suitable cheap DCC kit in the
Ireland let alone the UK (I am from northern ireland myself)

Lamp irons\brackets10 Apr 2004 00:01 GMT4
Could anyone recommend a good, reasonable value source for lamp irons
suitable for diesel locos? I'm imagining just bending up a bit of scrap
brass and soldering into shape would do the job, but are there any more
detailed etched examples out there?

I'm in need of the track specs for all MTH track pieces.  I went to
their site but the information they have available is not at all
complete.  Does anyone know of any sites where one could find
measurements for all of their track pieces?  Thanks.

Can anybody tell me why the one-track end (narrow) of a point is called the
toe and the two-track end (wide) the heel? I think I have fairly normal feet
and both of mine are narrow at the heel and wide at the toes. The outline of
a point is certainly foot-shaped, but the toes are ...
