lights on layout - electrical question21 Apr 2004 13:20 GMT8
I am considering adding structure lights and maybe street lights to my
N scale layout.  I am not an electrician but have done a little
research on the subject and have a couple of questions.
I plan on using 1.5 V bulbs.  I have found plans in a Model Railroader
Weathering with Chalk/Sealing with Dullcote20 Apr 2004 23:02 GMT11
I tried weathering some boxcars with chalk for the first time today and thought
I was doing OK.  That is, until I sprayed on some Testor's Dullcote and blew
the chalk away.  The Dullcote when dry also seemed to obscure the details.
Do you guys "overdo" the chalk weathering so that ...
For N-scale newbies like me researching passenger engines20 Apr 2004 22:42 GMT1
This has been an interesting week reasearching the different rail lines
and passenger and extra (friehgt) locos used by the various RRs during
various eras with an eye toward getting it all at least acceptably right
if you're not one of those incredibly intense RR modeling buffs ...

Heljan Hymek running qualities20 Apr 2004 17:20 GMT2
I have to say, I didn't believe it - I didn't think the loco could be *that*
good as people have suggested on various websites and in magazines. It is
though - if anything, it's better - I did the first testing on my new '00'
Layout this morning, using an ancient Hornby controller ...

I've got a friend who is changing to brass O gauge and wishes to sell a set

either blue/grey or Network southeast.
They are all in excellent condition and boxed.

Automotive Flasher Question20 Apr 2004 15:29 GMT8
I've got two lights salvaged from a scrapped RR crossing gate.  I want to
mount them on a striped length of 1 x 4 and have them flash as a decoration
in the train room.  The bulbs are low voltage (about 12 volt) about the size
of automobile turn signal bulbs and on similar large ...

DCC : Module Fitting20 Apr 2004 11:45 GMT8
I have a chance to go digital and am wondering just how easy it is to fit
decoder modules to non-DCC ready locos. Does it need a degree in electronics
or intimate knowledge of motors? Any advice appreciated. TIA, Dave.

Article on Proto 2000 SD2420 Apr 2004 10:45 GMT1
Still getting used to Gravity - my signature apparently doesn't get
entered into follow-up messages. Anyway, an article chronicling my
experiences (frustrations) with the SD24 has been posted at my website
(see below).
