Old model railroading publications needed!29 Sep 2004 06:38 GMT5
I'm looking for a copy of a few articles in the following publications.
Model Railroader - April 1962: Shay operated shortline RR you can model.
Kalmbach's More Railroads you can model: Graham County Railroad
NMRA Bullitin - June 1974: Graham County Railroad.
Sound generators29 Sep 2004 04:44 GMT3
I have been looking at an MRC Model 8000 sound generator of my LHS, but
I have never heard one operate. Do they sound very realistic? The box
says it requires a fixed AC current. Does that mean 110v or 14v from a
power pack? harrym
Kadee Abuse29 Sep 2004 04:42 GMT55
Sorry guys can't let this go by unchallenged. When Kadee put their
couplers on the market in the late 50's or early 60's the market
hadn't gotten behind the prototypical syle of operation like most guys
I know do now. Saying that Kadee's suit a particular operating style
Anglia/IC colours28 Sep 2004 18:52 GMT2
I've been asked to build a couple of Mk2 DBSO models, one in Intercity and
one in Anglia Railways colours. Is there a list anywhere of which paints
should be used for each? I know there are three different greys for example
on the IC livery and is the stripe with Anglia just white ...

I am currently converting a few rail cars to DCC, does somebody know how the
actual headlights are lighted?

Rear dimmed white ore read?
97xx pannier feed - any clues?28 Sep 2004 09:40 GMT2
While waiting for the Bachmann Jinty, I'm having a go at detailing an
old K's (I think) condensing pannier. On some model examples on one side
of the smokebox there's a casting of some kind of feed apparatus. Does
anyone know if any manufacturer still makes a casting of this feed ...
What is DCC?27 Sep 2004 21:50 GMT5
As someone who has been away from the hobby for a number of years, but is
just getting back into it now, can someone please explain to me what on
earth DCC is? I have seen it mentioned often on this group, but have no idea
what it is!
A Quick DCC Question27 Sep 2004 20:39 GMT3
...which is...
Why, when I am running in 128 speed step mode, does my controller
(a Lenz LH100) only show up to 126 on the display?
Dave.
Wooden Structures27 Sep 2004 16:31 GMT12
Is anyone familiar with any idiosyncracies of working with wooden structures?
I was considering buying a wooden grain elevator kit, but I'm unfamiliar with
which adhesives to use.  What sort of preparation does the wood need before
painting and what sort of paint works best on ...

SP Tanker Train - PFE inquiries27 Sep 2004 10:50 GMT9
Might there be a SP historian among the group - might someone have a
nice SP reference book [title and ISBN?].
I am wondering if the SP ran long tanker trains in the 1946 to 1956 time
period. I have seen several HO scale models of SP tanker cars that would

baseboards27 Sep 2004 07:24 GMT15
I would appreciate any thoughts on a baseboard idea I am playing
around with. Starting with an open wood frame construction something
like 18 - 24 inch squares.
Then covered with builders merchants polysterene insulation board
Atlas #342 decoder incorrectly set at factory27 Sep 2004 06:57 GMT5
The manual says that #342 decoder-equipped engines default to silent drive,
but CV50 is set to "1" at the factory, which is binary, and it should be set
to "8" (decimal) to configure for silent drive.
Bachmann goes backward?27 Sep 2004 06:50 GMT57
Did anyone see the ad in the latest MR for Bachmann's EZ Command? Seems
their "DCC On Board" locomotives will be equipped with 28-speed step
decoders! Even MRC is moving beyond this point! What is Bachmann thinking?
