Polar Express30 Nov 2004 23:40 GMT17
Does anyone else fume over displays with a "Polar Express" theme in
the supermarket? They're trying to emphasize the engineering details
of a train, but they're totally oblivious to wheels in the wrong
places, connecting rods going the wrong way, trucks that are trying to
Horn problems on old lionel set30 Nov 2004 22:58 GMT3
I have an early 1950s era Lionel O-27 train set than I'd like to set up
for my grandson.  Whenever I sound the horn it won't turn off.  Any
ideas on how to fix it?

Newbie questions30 Nov 2004 21:57 GMT6
I have a two year old who loves trains.
So, for Christmas, I was thinking of building a layout in his room - around
the wall about a foot below the ceiling.  I'm looking at O gauge.
Here's a couple of questions I have...
Repairing old MRC Ampack30 Nov 2004 21:08 GMT7
Yeah I know I know--why bother?  But I'm curious.
The darn thing shoots up to 20 DC with load as soon
as I start cranking the knob.
Opened it up--no solid state. The 50 ohm rheostat

Did Lima ever do an RTC 31?30 Nov 2004 14:12 GMT4
Did Lima ever do their 31 in later RTC livery as 97204 or 31970? If so, which
number did they go for? Before anyone asks, I'm not seriously contemplating
buying one, I'm planning on repainting a Hornby 31 when they're available,
and want the number Lima didn't do, if they indeed ...
Polar Express Inaccuracies Explained.30 Nov 2004 10:08 GMT25
Polar Express Inaccuracies Explained.
The model railroad community has directed much criticism toward the producers
of the recent Polar Express movie for inaccurately portraying the workings of
the steam locomotive in advertisements for the movie's spin-off products. In a
[HO] Branchline 50' AAR boxcar weight?30 Nov 2004 05:08 GMT2
I'm building a Branchline 50' AAR double door boxcar this weekend and for
some reason I don't have the steel nuts supplied with the kit to properly
weight the car -- and I don't have ready access to a postal scale right now.
Can someone tell me the weight needed to bring the car up ...
Marklin question29 Nov 2004 23:31 GMT12
I live in Norway where Marklin dominates the market, especially their
HO-gauge C-track system which is AC powered. Now, at an age where we old
guys revert to our childhood (but with more money) I've invested in one of
their starter packs which I will expand. However being English ...

Affordable Housing29 Nov 2004 19:12 GMT1
A recent post was looking for lower cost H-0 residential structures.
Colorado Models have basic structures that could be made quite
presentable with a little effort.   Roger Aultman

RM Seedy29 Nov 2004 17:49 GMT12
Just been watching the David Jenkins tribute film on the CD that came
with this month's RM.  Seems he died on the same day S&H was presented
with his first train set, a Hornby Flying Scotsman.  S&H was much
taken with this coincidence!
DCC and Bachmann Spectrum 4-8-229 Nov 2004 13:21 GMT2
I am thinking about going DCC for my new N scale layout.  My fourth.  I
haven't started construction yet, I am still redoing the garage as a
workshop and train room and am almost done.
I plan to first build a test layout as I am thinking of using code 55

the "end of the trail" in the old western desert.
Is this available commercialy? If not, any recommendations for a
process to make one?
