parts needed for an old Athearn pacific09 Nov 2004 23:38 GMT5
I know I am way out in left field on this but what the heck.
I picked up an old Athearn B&M Pacific #1180-10:95, cheap. The only problem is
the lower end piece the houses the axles is cracked and broken. I will in all
likelyhood have to fabricate my own.

Hornby v. Bachmann Class 08's09 Nov 2004 09:47 GMT9
How on earth has the Hornby 08 survived in production? It's just a
pathetic caricature of the real thing, with its ludicrous inside-frame
chassis. The Bachmann one is obviously streets ahead, and it's only
slightly more expensive.
Athearn/Horizon's new website09 Nov 2004 09:32 GMT10
Does anyone else think the changes that were made to Athearn's website now
make it actually MORE difficult to find information?

Shortline using a Shay question?09 Nov 2004 01:07 GMT27
I want to model a shortline RR set in the late 20's early 30's that is
used to transport passengers and goods back and forth to a resort hotel
on top of a mtn. I was hoping to be able to use a shay or two to be the
motive power.  I figured that the old logging RR played out when ...
DCC Dead Spot in Turnout09 Nov 2004 00:56 GMT3
I'm adding DCC to an existing setup.  The turnouts are all live, so I get
that dead spot in the middle of the frog (which is insulated, I believe).
Some of my locos stop dead at that spot.  My other trains flicker a bit, but
make it through.  Is there anything I can do to wire this ...

Video Monitoring of Hidden Track08 Nov 2004 18:43 GMT9
I am looking for a solution to supervising hidden holding yards.
I have four stacked holding yards, which represent the two extremities of my
railroad. Each one consists of four tracks in a balloon loop (allowing
trains to turn and return in the direction they came from) plus four ...

Catalog #8185 C&O Road #4016
Can anyone tell me with certainty if this second release of the E8/9
(1994-1996) had a DCC socket?

1987 Gaugemaster 2 track controller  - track 2 stuck full-on08 Nov 2004 09:43 GMT7
I've got a two-track Gaugemaster transformer controller dating from
1987/88 and the 'Track 2' output is stuck full-on, yet the direction
switch still operates. Track 1 is fine. Obviously one part has died (a
long time ago in my childhood, I was rather horrified to see the LED
ABANDONED HEISLER, CANARY ROW, MONTEREY CA.08 Nov 2004 09:30 GMT3
In the late 70's I remember an old Heisler (I think) located on a back
street, a block or two up the hill from Canery Row, Monterey
California. It was "up on blocks", no wheels, rusty and for all
intents, abandoned. Now it may have been a Climax but seem to remember
What metallic color?08 Nov 2004 07:56 GMT33
What metallic paints would be appropriate for new, lightly and heavily
weathered trucks? (metallic as in ... not rust).
