I know I am way out in left field on this but what the heck.
I picked up an old Athearn B&M Pacific #1180-10:95, cheap. The only problem is
the lower end piece the houses the axles is cracked and broken. I will in all
likelyhood have to fabricate my own.

How on earth has the Hornby 08 survived in production? It's just a
pathetic caricature of the real thing, with its ludicrous inside-frame
chassis. The Bachmann one is obviously streets ahead, and it's only
slightly more expensive.

Does anyone else think the changes that were made to Athearn's website now
make it actually MORE difficult to find information?

I want to model a shortline RR set in the late 20's early 30's that is
used to transport passengers and goods back and forth to a resort hotel
on top of a mtn. I was hoping to be able to use a shay or two to be the
motive power.  I figured that the old logging RR played out when ...

I'm adding DCC to an existing setup.  The turnouts are all live, so I get
that dead spot in the middle of the frog (which is insulated, I believe).
Some of my locos stop dead at that spot.  My other trains flicker a bit, but
make it through.  Is there anything I can do to wire this ...

Looking to add all wheel pickup to the tender of a Rivarossi BigBoy,

I've got a two-track Gaugemaster transformer controller dating from
1987/88 and the 'Track 2' output is stuck full-on, yet the direction
switch still operates. Track 1 is fine. Obviously one part has died (a
long time ago in my childhood, I was rather horrified to see the LED

In the late 70's I remember an old Heisler (I think) located on a back
street, a block or two up the hill from Canery Row, Monterey
California. It was "up on blocks", no wheels, rusty and for all
intents, abandoned. Now it may have been a Climax but seem to remember

What metallic paints would be appropriate for new, lightly and heavily
weathered trucks? (metallic as in ... not rust).
