Why is quartering a necessity?21 Nov 2004 00:24 GMT74
I'm naive about why quartering is necessary.
If the driver linkages were in the same position
on both sides why couldn't the locomotive go?

rail exhibition19 Nov 2004 05:14 GMT48
We visited a model rail exhibition in Hertford today. Of 16 layouts only
4 attracted much attention from our children; the others could be
summed up by the query: "Where's the train?". I was a little surprised
at the complete absence of digital control --- is that typical of ...

1st scenery project / Take a model train to work19 Nov 2004 00:13 GMT13
A few months ago, I posted a message about my 1st DPM structure.  I got some
great feedback from the group.  So, then I wanted to take a stab at some
scenery.  Since this was my first scenery attempt, I decided to do a simple
diorama to get some practice.  I also thought this ...
Newbie18 Nov 2004 19:46 GMT13
I would like to make a start in railway modelling. I have a keen interest in
computer control (I'm a retired technology teacher and have good knowledge
of basic computer control in models/robots). I would like to go down the
line of DCC in time and also Live stream.
Australian train wreck?18 Nov 2004 08:00 GMT2
Last night's local paper had a picture of the wreck of a high speed train
in eastern Australia, but no story on it.  It looked like the whole train
was derailed, but no one was killed.
Would any of you guys from down under like to supply some details?
Santa Fe Locomotives18 Nov 2004 07:58 GMT6
I'm new to the group so forgive if this question has come up before...I'm
interested in getting information about the type of locomotives Santa Fe
used in the 1970's. I grew up in Barstow and saw many freight trains with
the blue and yellow pulling them into the hump yard. Any ...

Matching Dupont paint numbers?17 Nov 2004 23:58 GMT13
I've come across some historical information on the Dupont color numbers used
by the GB&W for their RS-3s of the 1950s.
Realizing that model paint colors are very subjective (and our impression can
vary due to layout lighting, other layout colors and even scale), I still
