Sheet Cork09 Jan 2005 09:36 GMT15
Does any one know of suppliers in Queensland for 3 mm sheet cork. The
Darling Downs Model Railway Club Inc.needs a lot to cut up for road
bed for the track.
Also if anyone knows of cost effective alternatives, that also would
O Scale Manufacturer Popularity Contest08 Jan 2005 23:51 GMT19
Dear O Scale Model Train Owners,
I purchased my son (whom is only 2.5 years old and crazy about trains) a
Lionel Nickel Plate Road Super Freight set 6-31962 for Christmas.  It is
our first step together into what I hope will be a fun hobby for us for
What is a saw-by?08 Jan 2005 23:44 GMT11
My father-in-law was trying to explain to me about a saw-by maneuver but he
could not quite remember how it was that the two trains could pass. Can
anyone enlighten me?
Make your own Deltic08 Jan 2005 23:37 GMT6
I'm gob-smacked that this guy even thought about building this.  I still
think he needs to build the whole thing, now that would be awesome.

Heljan website rehash08 Jan 2005 22:34 GMT31
The new improved Heljan website is now up and running at the same address
(http://www.heljan.dk/). One interesting point, at
http://www.heljan.dk/news_show.php?news_id=7, is that the RRP for the
Dogfish wagons has been reduced from £20 to £15 following "positive comment"
Controversial - Rubbish Web Sites08 Jan 2005 18:45 GMT130
IMHO, many commercial model railway web sites are pretty toilet when
compared to most other commercial sites. It might be the old "I'm an
engineer, I can write my own web site" ploy but sadly these people can't
always be the best judge of their own work.
A real Rube Goldberg - the Klose System radial steam loco08 Jan 2005 08:03 GMT2
Someone brought a recent copy of Continental Modeler to our monthly meeting.
It had an article describing a class of 0-6-2 steam locos in Bosnia using
the "Klose System", which I had not heard of before.  This was the
equivalent of a modern Diesel radial truck applied to a steam ...

Help08 Jan 2005 01:37 GMT17
Frustration is setting in. I don't know what has happened in my computer. I
can't get to the NMRA home page. I wanted to check some rail standards, just
getting started here, and I like their help stuff.
Have they been hacked or is it me?
Model Train Magazine Index updates07 Jan 2005 22:09 GMT3
The Model Train Magazine Index at http://www.index.mrmag.com/ hasn't been
updated in over three months... I hope this isn't the beginning of the end of
this handy resource.
Peco track question07 Jan 2005 21:09 GMT5
I've got some Peco turnouts that I am trying to identify.  I know that they
are Streamline code 100 insulfrog. I have two lengths and I'm not sure if I
have the medium and small or the medium and large.  The larger is 26cm long
and the smaller is 22cm.  I also have a 22cm Y ...
UK Model Railway Magazines.07 Jan 2005 16:02 GMT11
I would appreciate advice on the best model rail magazine for UK outline.
Currently I am getting Model Rail, British Railway Modelling and Railway
Modeller.  My chief interest is in modern layouts although I do like to read
about the older periods also.  I would like to subscribe ...
Boiler07 Jan 2005 07:32 GMT41
Happy new year again
I am building an Engine Shed scene next and thought an old boiler on blocks
would look good outside one of the sheds .
Anyone built one or kitbashed one?
Shinohara......?07 Jan 2005 06:20 GMT10
I recall as a lad how this name would be spoken of in hushed tones....and if
I am honest I did look upon a points set or two longingly as they seemed
stunning in their workmanship.
Is Shinohara now regarded as the leader?
Lionel HO Challenger07 Jan 2005 03:07 GMT1
Having just acquired one of these at the big discount, I am so far pleased
except for one thing:
The boiler seems to be unstable and easily rocked from side to side.  At
speeds above 20 MPH, it does a fast shimmy.  This would suggest that the
