Shays Downunder25 Jan 2005 11:01 GMT15
As many of you would know, I am a returning modeller, after a 30 yr absence.
Planning my new layout now, which involves a couple of very small-cobbled
together (visually) mining sites. I am thinking of a slate mine (quarry?)
and a silver mine.
disassembly of Atlas N scale locos25 Jan 2005 10:22 GMT3
I have an Atlas N scale road diesel about a year old.  It ran great for many
months.  It has become erratic lately, and since it runs in a dusty
environment, I strongly suspect dust and lint in the mechanics and gear
train.  Taking the body off and using some computer blow-out stuff ...
Newbie turnout question25 Jan 2005 10:21 GMT7
Please pardon my ignorance on these topics. I'm just setting up a new HO
layout at home and ran into a bit of confusion. I purchased several Atlas
turnouts of the remote/solenoid actuaded variety to build a sort of
railyard area into my design. I was under the impression that these

Bricks and Mortar - in the good ol' days25 Jan 2005 06:09 GMT6
Brickwork in pre 1900 UK buildings in the East Anglian area.   If I use
9"(L) x 4.5"(W) and allow say 10-11mm for mortar, would be I be far out in
my estimations when counting bricks to obtain measurements ??  The building
I am taking measurements from was built around ...

Free layout framework - San Diego24 Jan 2005 18:22 GMT1
About 15 years ago I started building an L-shaped HO-n30 layout in my garage. I
got the basic framework done and some of the roadbed. Then had to to partially
dismantle it when we had some remodeling done on the house. It's been taking up
space in my garage ever since. I've finally ...
Saving magazines24 Jan 2005 16:02 GMT58
Here's a question to chew on.
How many of you save the entire magazine after you've read it, to keep the
articles in there of interest to you?
Think about it: after a few years, you'll have a collection of magazines
Triang-Hornby wagon24 Jan 2005 14:55 GMT3
I have just acquired a Triang-Hornby 16 ton standard mineral wagon with a
yellow body (yellow plastic, not repainted), on the normal black chassis.
As I have never seen one like this before, I was wondering if anyone could
enlighten me please?
Roundhouse or Bachmann Spectrum?24 Jan 2005 14:39 GMT6
I have a chance to get a Shay in either of these brands - I believe the
Roundhouse will be around $30-40 cheaper and feel there may be good reason
for this.
What do people think about the two brands?
Austrains photo comp24 Jan 2005 14:18 GMT1

selected to grace the web site?
Since I havent had any private communication on the matter,   I assume the
miracle didnt occur and none of my submissions made it to the finals.
