OFF TOPIC-- A question about firearms in Oz.06 Feb 2005 01:48 GMT6
Last night I was talking with friends about a gunshow we recently went to when one of
them mentioned that no one in Australia was allowed to own a gun, or have possesion
of one on their person or property.
Is this true?
Loco Wheel cleaning05 Feb 2005 22:11 GMT9
I've brought my old Hornby loco's out of hibernation (circa 1985 when
they last ran), and all but one runs well after a wheel clean with the
track rubber.
The one in question is a tender driven 4P Compound, and it jerks all the

I am are having a discussion with a few guys in an Austalian based mailing

Help required in designing traverser please05 Feb 2005 16:28 GMT9
I'm still toying with ideas for my garage layout, one idea I'm playing
around with is having a fiddle yard under my proposed "Country terminus",
because of clearance problems the only way I can see this working is by
building it as some form of traverser. But I still have problems ...

Model trains becoming less popular.05 Feb 2005 12:02 GMT26
Saw in a local (Melbourne) throw-away paper that the German model train
firm Marklin is to sack 400 of its staff, account falling sales of model
railway items. Other traditional European toy makers say the same. Cause:
electronic games and the like. Many of these firms are ...

triang couplers?05 Feb 2005 08:11 GMT9
With all the fad to equip one's rolling stock with kadee couplers, it
strikes me that many hobbyists must have lying about, left over original
couplers of assorted brands, which they may wish to part with.
Thus, does anyone have any triang couplers available for purchase, or know
Bachmann 200505 Feb 2005 05:44 GMT9
Can somebody confirm that there is no such thing as Fairburn Prairie. I
cut this from the Bachmann February page.
"You'll see from a quick glimpse of the catalogues that we've
introduced the 9F, Fairburn Prairie and the Class108 DMU to the range,
Lionel CW Whistle Controler05 Feb 2005 05:13 GMT5
Hi; My son broke his new train set from X-Mas. He put some thing in the
whistle hole on the bottom of the Tender. Then tried to sound the whistle
and over heated the transistor on the little control  board. I have ordered
a new board (due in 2-3 weeks) but in the meantime would ...
Athearn - MDC Roundhouse Now Dead?05 Feb 2005 00:20 GMT90
After the Horizon takeover  of these two companies, I reluctantly went
to their web site and found that the only "local" retailer was a
national "Toy Store" chain. I've been there, they don't know anything
about model trains, and have virtually no items in stock.
