DCC Socket02 Feb 2005 20:38 GMT14
I would like to fit a socket to a loco which doesn't have one so that
subsequently the decoder can be changed easily. Anyone know a source of
suitable sockets?

Nationalisation and the BR Crest02 Feb 2005 19:56 GMT9
I have seen several locos labelled as early and late BR crest (on the
Bachman adverts on Model Rail for example!!).
What are the rough dates that would have related to the various crests or
was there quite an overlap? I assume that as soon as the railways were
New To N-Scale02 Feb 2005 17:08 GMT3
I am new to N-scale and have decided to give Unitrack by KATO a go.  I
saw it at
the Big E in Springfield and really liked it.  Here's some questions.
Can someone tell me what I need to get up and running?  I plan on
Bachmann 0402 Feb 2005 14:58 GMT23
Any opinions on the quality of this model? I know it's based on the 03
originally produced in the Mainline days, but what are the running qualities
like? Does it have the split chassis arrangement like other Mainline
products? What about room for a decoder?

Thanks in advance
Someone with Heljan Western?02 Feb 2005 01:59 GMT8
I've been looking for a pic of one of these locos going round a trainset
curve, or in fact any curve, as I'm trying to find out whether the extreme
lower end of the body side (the bit that's out on it's own near the buffers)
is fixed to the bogie ala Hornby, or to the body ala ...
Testors Decal Bonder02 Feb 2005 00:46 GMT2
Can anyone suggest an alternative to Testors "Decal Bonder" product,
as this is unavailable locally. I do have an "old" bottle of
Microscale "Liquid Decal Film", but I haven't tried it yet . Would
normal flat / gloss clear coatings work, or are they not flexible
Scale Speeds01 Feb 2005 23:59 GMT12
I once saw posted on this newsgroup a speed table converting prototype
speeds to HO scale... 60 MPH prototype equals so many feet covered over so
many seconds.in HO.
Does anyone have that table at their fingertips?

What happens to the caboose?01 Feb 2005 20:00 GMT19
The other day when I was operating my small layout, I was going through the
usual switching routine of uncoupling my caboose and pushing it into a
siding so that I could pick up and drop some cars.
While I was doing this it suddenly dawned on me that in real life
