Loco paint questions!17 Sep 2005 10:02 GMT1
I'm building a GWR Large Metro Tank engine for a friend and I'm getting
close to the painting stage.  I've been told that the tops of the tanks on
GWR tank engines were painted black.
Can anyone confirm or refute this?  I can't find enough reference

Re: Signals and Lights16 Sep 2005 18:08 GMT6
I would like to buy some UK modern image signals for my layout, but cannot find a good website that stocks any; preferably with pictures.
I would also like some station and street lights.
All of these would be functioning, not just scenic.
Thanks for any help
decals16 Sep 2005 12:19 GMT9
I have just been putting the finishing touches of trying to apply
decals to several of my models prior to final painting.  In many cases
this has been an exercise in frustration.
Many years ago I used to model WW2 aircraft & the decals of ALL the kit
Bachmann Decoders16 Sep 2005 11:46 GMT6
Apologies if there's been a discussion about this before, but I can't track
it down.
I recently purchased a couple of Bachmann 4 function decoders (cat. no.
36-550) to "compare and contrast" with my normal Lenz kit.
GWR 0-4-2-T to 2-4-0T16 Sep 2005 09:24 GMT5
how mind bogglingly difficult would it be to rework a commercial model
1400 class to be a decent representation of an Armstrong 2-4-0T....
curious after a previous thread sparked a memory. It would be nice to
model pre 1900 as an antidote to the 1930-s
Matt shine woes.15 Sep 2005 22:58 GMT6
So I'd just finished the most exsquisitely detailed and weathered (yeah,
right) model, and dug out the matt varnish to give it a coat to protect
the (Carr's powder) weathering.    I set it aside, and came back to it
the next day. To my horror, it was covered in a dull satin sheen ...
Signal questions15 Sep 2005 22:10 GMT2
Can you help a Brit out?
Where can I get some information on the types and meanings of Canadian
and US signals. I'm particularly interested in the single lens type.
Also does anyone know where I can get some HO scale (working) models for
What glue15 Sep 2005 21:19 GMT6
Please help: I need to stick etched brass coach sides to adapted polystyrene
coach sides and I believe the accepted glue to use is a contact adhesive.  I
recall an article in a model railway magazine some years ago in which the
author used Thixofix to stick Plasticard to brass sides ...
Hornby class 11015 Sep 2005 19:03 GMT6
I saw one of these in the shop today, it looks pretty good from a
distance.  Has anyone tried one?  Any idea how well it runs and how
amenable it might be to DCC?

Airbrushing matte medium?15 Sep 2005 16:13 GMT4
I'm "scenicking" a 4X6 N-scale layout using the techniques in Dave Frary's
"How to Build Realistic Model Railroad Scenery" book. He suggests using
plastic spray bottles to mist matte medium over the ground foam, ballast,
etc. after application. The problem I'm having is that ...
Mounting coach bogies15 Sep 2005 11:05 GMT5
We are probably all aware of commercial coaches, which have the bogie
mounting central to the bogie.  I have just bought a used coach where
the mounting for the bogie has been extended such that the part which
attaches to the bottom of the coach is above the front axle, rather ...
