Scratchbuilding track bits04 Oct 2005 13:11 GMT5
As I may have mentioned before (ha ha) I have been scratch-building
some diamond crossings.  The biggest surprise to me is how long it
takes - typically eight hours or more for something which is really
not that finely made (I am not desperately fussed at this stage).
Something Different04 Oct 2005 09:53 GMT3
If anyone has access to "The Illustrated Directory of Trains of the World"
by Brian Hollingsworth, have a look at page 237 and see if you think that
the locomotive depicted there looks a bit familiar. They were delivered to
their owners in 1937.
Which is correct - GF or Minitrix03 Oct 2005 22:13 GMT23
I have noticed that there is a slight difference in the appearance
between farish N gauge MKI and Minitrix MKI coaches.  I was informed
that this may be due to the scale they were produced in (not sure, but I
think its either 1:148 or 1:160 ??) - so which manufacture has a ...

OO military vehicles03 Oct 2005 21:28 GMT205
Just got back from Paris, where I had a wander around the model shop near my
wife's flat. There is a firm called Dragon Models
(http://www.dragon-models.com/html/mainf.html) which does 1/72nd modern and
WW2 armour in both plastic kit and finished die-cast formats. Whilst there

Loco woes02 Oct 2005 21:33 GMT3
I stopped by a local store (MJ-Hobby in Stockholm) on the way home from
work yesterday and managed to pick up the only used Marklin transformer
they had left. At SEK 450 (~$50US) for a measly 10 VA unit, I don't
really consider it "cheap" but it served me to get started on my
Bachmann Intermodal wagons02 Oct 2005 21:30 GMT15
Not feeling very bright (and not wanting to damage the fine detail) can
anyone tell me how to attach the containers to these wagons - there being no
instructions supplied by Bachmann.
Choice of DCC decoders and System Layouts02 Oct 2005 20:21 GMT4
I am looking to convert my N gauge stock to DCC and wondered if anyone could
summarise the pros and cons of each decoder manufacturer. Also, despite the
several articles I have read, nowhere have I seen descriptions of the
overall DCC system and which parts are inter-changeable ...
Bachman Mk102 Oct 2005 18:27 GMT4
Decided to see how well the supplied couplers work with the Bachman MK1's.
Which way up do they go? Is the "hump" up or down?
Any one have stories about these?
Rob
Points -- Advice, please.02 Oct 2005 16:49 GMT4
I use Peco code 100 track and my layout is controlled by Lenz dcc. I have a
number of Peco medium radius live frog points arranged 'back to back' to
enable crossing between 2 adjacent parallel lines. All works well apart from
one left hand point. Almost all my stock negotiates ...

source for sub mini toggle switches01 Oct 2005 23:38 GMT4
Can anybody point me to a source for buying SPDT momentary on (ON)-OFF-(ON)
toggle switches? They don't seem to have them at radio shack, I keep coming
up empty on the Digikey web site (probably don't know how to put the right
keywords in) and the Jameselectronics.com site seems ...
