My wife thinks I need sound on my home layout [not DCC], so I checked out the Model 312 [18 sounds]and also a Tech II Model 8000 [just two sounds -- diesel horn and steam whistle]. Anyone have experience with either of these? Is there another system [for diesel and steam sounds] ...

The Class 118 DMU got a white a blue paint jo in the 1980s (I think), can anyone shed any light on the origin of this livery, was it used for any other units or just the WR cross country 118s? Example -

Is it possible to remove Humbrol enamels from a plastic bodied loco whilst retaining the original factory finish underneath (and not attacking the plastic, obviously)? TIA.

Every once in a while, there is a thread dealing with the subject of track cleaning. How about locomotive wheel cleaning? I have a Digitrax DCC layout, and wheel cleaning is a problem. I have used a wire wheel in a Dremel tool, but I can clean only a portion of each wheel,
