How much fuel does a diesel locomotive typical consume idling?  I'm
talking during long periods while parked.  I know that it is hard to
restart a cold engine, especially here in the north country during
winter...has there been any thoughts about using the same systems that

Q: O scale (?) and DC or AC current?11 Jul 2006 00:59 GMT3
I have old British clockwork Hornby trains, (I think that's scale O).
The clock works are weak, and I was thinking of buying an electric engine
and then altering it by rigging up a battery pack to it to allow it to run
on the non-electric tracks I have.

Salvage operation11 Jul 2006 00:03 GMT9
While nothing is official yet, I'm "considering" demolishing my current
layout (15x19) and replacing it with a smaller, more manageable one.  I
should have built a smaller one in the first place.  A layout that size is a
pretty large undertaking for one person... at least it is ...

Planning a new layout09 Jul 2006 17:57 GMT2
At present we have a tailchaser about 14ft by 12ft on its largest
dimensions.  In house 2.0, always assuming the sellers don't pull out
at the last minute, I'll be rebuilding in a room 27ft x 17ft, with the
option of going through the walls if need be.  There is a double door
New deliveries09 Jul 2006 09:14 GMT3
In the 1960s when large numbers of diesel locomotives were being
delivered each month, how did they get to their allocated depot?
Were there numerous light engine movements, or were they included in
freight trains?
