Wagon weights?22 Sep 2006 20:45 GMT14
has anyone got any useful thoughts on wagon weighting?
I'm building some 1/24th scale NZR wagons and imagine the results to be a
bit light.
I tried 1/24x24x24 of tare weight but the results are perhaps twice what
KADEE conversion on P2K E8/E9 in HO22 Sep 2006 15:52 GMT4
I'm not a big fan of using the long Kadee couplers for the front of the
Proto 2000 E8/E9 diesels. Too much droop it seems to me. I'd like to move
the coupler mounting forward such that I could use a standard #5 coupler and
box. I know I have to fabricate my own mounting system; ...

Early Bachmann Jinty22 Sep 2006 11:12 GMT9
I have just treated myself to one of the early Bachmann Jinty models
that does not come with a DCC chip in.
What chip have others used ? I was thinking along the lines of a Lenz Silver
Mini ? But the extra functions are wasted on something that will only go
Automation and sound ideas22 Sep 2006 03:17 GMT8
Hi, we're working to build a G scale railroad that will be on display
for a number of children during the holiday season. If any one has
ideas / suggestions we can use for adding (child controlled)
automation and sound, we'd really appreciate it! In specific, we're
Solder Nickel Siver Rail22 Sep 2006 02:39 GMT5
I recently bought some MTH track and would like to solder a few wires to
different sections.  I'm having trouble getting the solder to adhere to the

In-ko-pah Railroad pics!21 Sep 2006 20:20 GMT5
The In-ko-pah Railroad is my outdoor, large-scale layout. It's still
under construction, though some parts are basically done. The layout is
built on a steep hill behind our house which was formerly covered with
iceplant. The theme is a desert, narrow gauge railroad serving mines in

Lloyd's DEB set21 Sep 2006 14:03 GMT2
I'm after a bit of help. I'm in the process of painting in Candy a set of
900 class DEB set cars, for a friend. I do not have any candy photos showing
the wording and positioning of identification, coding, etc. on the sides of
these cars. Can anyone direct me to a readily available ...
Anybody tried DCC and went back to DC?21 Sep 2006 03:16 GMT246
I was reading the "DCC - why not?" thread and to took Jon Miller's
bait.  He has a valid point.  Is there anybody out there who ran their
model trains using DC, then converted to DCC and went back to DC again?
If yes, then I would like to know what was the reason for going back to
The Switching Problem (was Correct American Terminology)21 Sep 2006 02:01 GMT7
As promised here are the instructions for my 'Timesaver' switching
layout. This is based on a classic layout. In my case there is just
track work on a simple board. I have made no attempt to add scenery as
the idea was to make a layout which could be used to test the problem

LNER Thompson 59'6" corridor compo coaches20 Sep 2006 09:01 GMT1
Trying to solve a puzzle re. the above, and none of my many books of
railway photos seems to be giving any real clue; were the corridor and
compartment sides identical in terms of both (a) no. of oval loo
windows and (b) provision of "plain" as against "toplight" full-size
BTS speeder "clone"20 Sep 2006 00:28 GMT2
I'd like to build a model similar to the BTS speeder model that they
advertise on their web site and from time to time, in MODEL RAILROADER.  I
have about everything that I think I'd need but I need some suggestions on
the power mechanism.  What do you think would be a good ...
