More Broken Locos, J72s10 Oct 2006 21:57 GMT33
Yep, you guessed it; this hasn't really turned into the running session I'd
hoped for..
I thought I'd mention that my J72 fleet has another 2 casualties taking the
number of working J72s to 0 / 5.
Ex-Lima models from Hornby10 Oct 2006 17:12 GMT11
The first of the ex-Lima models are starting to filter through from Hornby.
Yesterday we unpacked some bogie PDA twin depressed centre cement tankers,
and today we've found CCTs in spurious liveries for the Thomas the Tank
Engine range,
Masonite backdrops10 Oct 2006 14:10 GMT8
I am starting the framework on my new layout and am going to use 1/8"
Masonite for the backdrops.  It is my first around the wall layout and thus
first backdrop.  What radius can I expect to achieve in bending it around
the corners.  I am planning on 16 or 18 inches.  I have ...
Replacing the armature in an X03/X04 motor10 Oct 2006 10:12 GMT4
Has anyoe out there ever successfully replace an armature in an X03/X04
motor? How easy is it to open the motor up and then when the armature
is replaced close it back up so that it is solid again? Do you need
special tools.
Sergent coupler test10 Oct 2006 00:03 GMT2
I recieved my Sergent couplers yesterday and spent last night having a
bit of a play around with them. For those unfamiliar these are a HO
true scale knuckle coupling, not compatible with Kadees or similar.
Their website is http://www.sergentengineering.com.
Rheostat ?09 Oct 2006 22:42 GMT23
I have been trying to find Rheostats that can handle 70 watts (ac side of
transformer is 17.5v and 4a) but small enough in physical size to put on control
panel. Want to put about 7 of them on control panel.
Went to Radio Shack and the only thing they had were rated at 25ohm and 3 ...
Branchline coaches vs. Bachmann coaches09 Oct 2006 22:06 GMT7
Compared to Branchline HO coaches, how well detailed are Bachmann HO
coaches?  I've never seen the Bachmann passenger cars and have the
opportunity to get several for about what the IHC cars sell for.  My main
concern is that they don't stand out like sore thumbs if in the same ...
Atlas N Shay performance09 Oct 2006 18:31 GMT6
Considereing reserving one of the new ones, how do they run and how do
they look.  Also, where to get logging cars to go with them.
Dapol suburban coaches - what's the prototype?09 Oct 2006 16:08 GMT1
I've just bought a job lot of surplus Dapol suburban composite coach
bodies (unpainted) on eBay, but am now trying to establish what prototype
they're based on. I can only establish negatively from my modest picture
sources that they're not BR Mk1, and nothing GWR either. The layout ...
Miami09 Oct 2006 04:53 GMT4
Hi we will be in Miami Florida next year, and I thought it would be
interesting to look at an American model shop. Anyone know if there is one
in the area

DCC Couplings for OO/HO08 Oct 2006 05:34 GMT13
Just did a quick Google and didn't turn up any usable results, so does
anyone here know of any DCC controllable couplings/system for OO/HO? By DCC
controllable I mean the couplings can be opened/closed using a DCC decoder
within a vehicle, and NOT through any form of track ...
Advice needed on modeling project08 Oct 2006 05:20 GMT2
To make the gauge on a 1/24th scale water tower I'm modeling, I need to
cut a lengthwise slot in a 1/8" diameter brass or aluminum tube, 11"
long. Any suggestions on how to do this? I only have hand tools.

intermountain vs. kato08 Oct 2006 03:20 GMT2
I'm considering getting some N scale carbody units, and I'm thinking
either Intermountain F3s or Kato F7s.  The Kato units seem to be a bit
hard to find, and I was wondering if anybody has had experience with
these two brands and how they measure up?
Identifying an old brass locomotive from the 40's or 50's08 Oct 2006 01:33 GMT14
I've got a brass locomotive that my great grandfather never completed
before his death in the 50's.  I can't find any identifying marks, but
it appears to be O gauge (abt 1.25" wheelbase).  4" high, 14.5" long.
Please take a look at these images and let me know if you can tell
