I got a Polar Express set for around the Christmas tree, and found that I
don't get any puffing smoke. Everything else seems to work fine. It's been
34 years since I had a train and I had forgotten how fun they are just to
sit and watch.

Has any manufacturer made a commercial model of an Alco S-6 switcher - in
any scale?

Hello.  I have been looking at Marklin Z-Scale sets.  There is one on eBay I
am considering buying, but in doing some research on the set, I found (as

As a non O-scale modeler, I'm a bit confused by the terms "3-rail" and
"2-rail" used to describe O scale equipment.  Besides the obvious difference
of power pick-up between the two types of equipment, are freight and
passenger cars interchangeable between the two?  What are the ...

Does anyone know if Concor ever produced a collector's set in N scale
of L&N's Pan American?
I've seen references to it, but I've never seen one for sale - on eBay,
on any of the other auction sites, or at any shows I've gone to.

The local shops have given me some possibly conflicting answers to the
question about the voltage and type needed for the electrically actuated
switches. One says to only use the AC accessory connection on the power pack
I have and the other says it doesn't matter whether or not ...

Apart from Shinkansen, the railways of Japan were built to the 3ft 6ins
gauge.
So how does this work for Kato's Japanese ranges are their models
(HO/N) built to a larger scale to represent accurately the narrower

Especially older models (or ones that can be backdated) since I'm modeling a
harbor scene in 1938-1940 timeframe.  I'm especially interested in separate
motors but I'll buy the whole boat rig if it's appropriate.  Who
manufactures these things?

Did the UP E-7 diesel engines haul freight or were they used for passenger
service only?

I am about to try my first decoder fitting in a non-socket loco.
As I look inside the loco there appears to be a small component covered in red
heatshrink apparently in series with the motor - What is it and should I remove
it or leave it?

I wish everybody in this group a healthy and prosperous 2007, especially
