Model Rail - Model of the Year Competition10 Jan 2007 21:08 GMT4
What credibility can a 'Model of the Year' vote have which doesn't allow an
unlimited choice of models released during the year in question?  My first
choice for new loco of 2006 would be a toss up between the Bachmann 108 dmu,
the Heljan 26 or 27 diesel or the Heljan O-gauge ...
What is a "Snoot" ?10 Jan 2007 21:03 GMT9
Forgive my ignorance - but what does "snoot nose" mean with an SD-40
locomotive? Also I've seen SD-40's described as having 88" noses. What
difference are these types from each other?
I am looking at some model CP "Pacman" SD-40's to pull long grain
Hornby Service Sheets?10 Jan 2007 20:44 GMT8
Has anyone discovered where Hornby have hidden the
Service Sheets on their new website?
I'd like to look at the Dean Single, to see if they'll
make available some of the 'losable' parts which I'd
Question for Gargraves Track Users10 Jan 2007 16:59 GMT10
I'd like to get some Gragraves Phantom track with wooden ties to play
around with since I have heard such good things about it. By "play around",
I mean setting it up ad-hoc on the carpeting since I'm not prepared for a
permanent layout let.
Input please; Lenz vs Digitrax10 Jan 2007 16:11 GMT17
After deliberating for years, it seems I am on the cusp of switching to the
DCC system. I believe that starter systems offered by Digitrax (Super Empire
Builder) and Lenz Digital Plus (Set-100) both provide features and power
that will satisfy my requirements. I currently operate ...

Hornby DCC decoder10 Jan 2007 09:35 GMT2
Anybody got any experience using these with a Lenz system? The only reason I
ask is that it seems to be the cheapest option for the driving trailer in a
Bachmann 108 to operate the lights, as it has 4 functions.

points please?
H & M Duette controller terminals09 Jan 2007 12:41 GMT18
I have a couple of H & M Duette controllers for use with the layout I am
building.
Wiring up the variable power for the trains is easy - nice big terminals,
with thumbscrew nuts.  However, I don't have nay of the connections to go in

Anyone know what happened? Their website is down and a redirect page says
the domain name is for sale.

Why is the smoke box of so many machines not as black as the boiler but
looks gray?

Construction ideas for 4-part mini layout08 Jan 2007 21:52 GMT4
I've been in and out of model railroading for years--usually because I
don't have room to devote to a full-size, full-time layout. I once
built a 2-part HO layout (4 x 16 feet) as part of a commercial display
shown at a state fair. This time, I'd like to build what is essentially
