Laying Track Outdoors17 May 2007 16:03 GMT12
It all started with an $8 purchase for a bunch of train stuff at a garage
sale...  Soon, I had a piece of track for my G-gauge locomotive as test
track, and plans for a loop outside.  To make a long story short, I'm
skipping right to the laying track part.
added animated mechanical signs to my layout17 May 2007 01:03 GMT3
I run my layout digitally and I recently added the capability to
display the arrival and departures on an external monitor that can be
hung on the wall.
Images of the result can be seen at  http://layout.mixmox.com/1/remote-sign

Measuring amongst other things!15 May 2007 19:31 GMT44
Someone please explain why?
a) you measure the available space for a model railway, then construct the
baseboard only to find that it's two inches (5cm to the unknowing) longer
than the space available.
car system15 May 2007 19:28 GMT9
I have just been introduced to the Faller Car System. WOW!! Recently I surfed
the internet and have viewed videos & pictures of  the Faller Car System.
Some of the sites included the Miniatur
Wunderland in Hamburg. Wow. Wish I could take a vacation to the spot.
Camera Recommendations compact or dSLR?15 May 2007 13:55 GMT12
I'm planning to take the plunge and buy a good digital camera for general
use (including railway photography).
I had just about decided on the Canon Powershot G7 as the next best thing to
a dSLR. Now, one of the regulars on this group has suggested going for the

That's why I came here.
But, I was wrong.
This group appears to be more for arguments and the use of four letter

Other options? I want to run a shuttle  railcar service from my terminus to
a branch station, stop for a while, then return.
Thanks, scoot

A few weeks ago someone put a web page address for a little simulation
of a small railway .It  had a signal and a river with a little boat
which came along and a crane loaded a container onto the train and off
it went. I have lost the page and would appreciate it if someone could

Can DCC railroads be controlled by computers?12 May 2007 01:33 GMT16
I am thinking right now what sort of railroad to buy for my 6 year
old's upcoming birthday. He already has a LIFE LIKE railroad and he
likes it and has a friend who is a huge railroad fan. So there is a
social aspect to this.
