NMRA National Train Show at Detroit07 Aug 2007 13:25 GMT4
Anyone notice the small number of vendors actually selling merchandise at
the train show?  Over the past few years, the number of vendors attending
the show and actually selling trains has decreased so much that, in my
opinion, is impacting the show itself and will result in ...
Prototype track maps07 Aug 2007 07:17 GMT9
I would like to model a US scene.   The only reference I can find to track
maps online seem to refer to rapid transit systems (with the exception of
the Chicago area).   I've tried Google Earth and suchlike mapping sites but
the resolution (although very good) is not really what ...

Model Rail06 Aug 2007 14:28 GMT4
Can anyone confirm if the August edition of Model Rail has come out? Was due
on 19th July but have not seen it in the usual outlets here at all including
Smiths who usually have plenty. I know, I know I should get a subs but I

"Hornby branches out to new lines"05 Aug 2007 23:09 GMT3
Toymaker Hornby is putting its faith in TV favourite Dr Who and Formula One
star Lewis Hamilton to drive sales.
The group has negotiated a licence with BBC Worldwide to produce a range of
Airfix models based on Dr Who, which should hit shop shelves for Christmas.
Returning beginner needs a bit of help.03 Aug 2007 09:28 GMT13
I am 60 and returning to model railways after 40 years absence. My hasn't a
lot changed :)
I always like track building and my father [now deceased] was particularly
good at building TT point work when he retired.
Hornby Black 5   R232202 Aug 2007 20:41 GMT3
I recently acquired one of these locos in a rather distressed state.
One of the renewals decided upon was the pick-up and lower chassis
components. There is only one type for the 8 variations.  After
assembly the speed and traction was minimal. Problem = brake shoes on
Layout design methods.02 Aug 2007 14:19 GMT22
How do you go about designing a layout?   Pen and paper?   Gut?!   Software?
I've downloaded a number of layout design pieces of software* and I'm not
getting on with any of them.
*Winrail, Railroad and Co, Train Tools, XtraCad, Hornby HVR2.
A few flex track tips for Graham02 Aug 2007 04:38 GMT4
For Graham Harrison and others. I'm sure others will add their tips.
a) always shape the flex track before fastening it down. Do no start
fixing it at one end and curving as you go.
b) make a track template of the design radius, a quarter circle is long

Bachmann 47 Reviews01 Aug 2007 19:49 GMT10
Seems to be mixed opinions from magazine reviews I have seen fron Hornby
magazine saying its the best ever Express magazine must try harder
especially on the chasis. What does everyone else think. As from memory
the only major problem with the Heljan 47 was its width.
