DCC controller recommendations22 Jan 2008 15:06 GMT26
I'm running a Lenz Set100 and would like to add a second controller for
no.1 son. I'm looking for something reasonably child-friendly, so :
1. not too complicated
2. preferably a knob for throttle control

A general note on colors21 Jan 2008 05:57 GMT1
Apropos the recent question here about what color to use to represent
the wood decks of flatcars, it seems worth mentioning something that I
think is a good general principle of color selection for things model
railroad, and I'd like to get some comments. (Disclaimer: I certainly ...

The Mainline Range20 Jan 2008 22:11 GMT8
During the 70's & 80's (are the apostrophies OK) I was a
workoholic and had little time for "The Hobby". I had no experience of
Mainline kit when new but recently  have had plenty of the worn out
variety. That was until this past week when I bought a Class 45 stated
Test track suggestion20 Jan 2008 21:19 GMT12
I just built a test track for my hobby work shop, and I'd like to pass on a
suggestion.  Include a turnout with your test track.  That way, if one of
your cars is hanging up at the turnouts on the layout, it should do the
same on the test track.

Question re: 1:1 trains....19 Jan 2008 19:10 GMT6
I recently purchased one of the Concor collector sets.  Won't be
running it, but I'm thinking about a diorama-type display.  Want to
combine the cars in the set with some matching others that I got from
another source.
Best N-scale code 100 turnouts19 Jan 2008 13:07 GMT3
I've been using Atlas turnouts forever, using the Caboose Industries
sprung throws to hand operate them, on a display module I take to
train shows.
But the points seem to be causing problems (i.e., derailments), so I

Cleaning old brass18 Jan 2008 19:25 GMT8
What is the best way to clean tarnish off brass locos ?
Got back into the hobby after 20 odd years. I had a number of brass locos
that I kept wrapped in plastic, in their boxes but some still managed to get
tarnished
Hornby Class 5618 Jan 2008 18:29 GMT2
Anyone got a Hornby class 56?  Take a look at the outer sleeve with the
picture of the loco and tell us what it says in the little emblem above the
centre of the loco!  Interesting attention to detail!  :-)

poor running18 Jan 2008 12:51 GMT3
I have been given a Hornby GWR 0-4-0 loco, almost new. It is extremely
light, plastic body, made in China on the under frame. Its a lovely little
engine, and suits my purpose admirably, but it runs horribly, and battles to
pull more than a brake van. Can I add some weight to it, ...
