BRM Festival of Modelling 2008 - or rather, the lack of...?07 Jan 2008 11:48 GMT8
Now it's new year I was just thinking ahead a few months to the next major
exhibitions and one that doesn't appear to have been set yet is the annual
BRM Festival of Modelling, normally held at Alexandra Palace. Normally it's
known about quite a while in advance, but seems to ...

This concerns the dovetailed back-ends of the NEM pockets as supplied by
Hornby and Bachmann.
The dovetails on the back end of the Hornby pockets are 4.0 mm. wide.
Those on the back of the Bachmann pockets are 4.6 mm. wide. I managed to

Can anybody tell me if Hornby Dublo made any GWR King, County, Grange, Manor

Bachmann J72 Chassis06 Jan 2008 19:26 GMT1
I have a Bachmann J72 with the wheel quartering issues and have contacted
Bachmann about buying a new wheelset.  They can only provide wheelsets
for J72s made in in China (and not made in Hong Kong).  I have a Hong
Kong made chassis.
Drewry 204HP Shunter D227506 Jan 2008 18:20 GMT1
Can anyone point me at a photo of the above loco, please?
The front step arrangement changed around the time that D2275 was
built - the recessed shunters' riding step was introduced - and I'd
like to check if D2275 had the revised step.

Favorite cleaners and lubes05 Jan 2008 22:50 GMT36
Anyone have any favorite cleaners?  I just got back into the hobby and I
converted a DC Athearn (no factory plug) to DCC and upgraded the decoder in
a Bachmann engine.  While I was at it, I decided to clean out the factory
lube.  I tried using alcohol per some web advice, but it ...
It works!!!05 Jan 2008 22:45 GMT3
I finished up my first mini-dcc controller/booster tonight.  I mounted
everything in a two-pound potato salad container.  It's roughly cubicle
about 5" per side.  The keypad and LCD display are mounted in the lid with
the PIC board piggy backed on to that.  The other circuit ...

Unbelievable Ebay Auction!05 Jan 2008 02:39 GMT9
From time to time, I know that there has been discussions surrounding some
items that have been up for auction on Ebay.  This one HAS to rival the "one
piece of curved Track" from several months ago.
No, this is NOT and advertisement...

DIY DCC decoders04 Jan 2008 17:12 GMT4
Wow; I didn't realize that decoders could be so simple. Check this one
out: http://www.uniserv.ru/htm/hobb/tmwdcc/l272sch.gif. (This was found
by following links from the "annoying snowflakes" site.)
It's only 2 chips, a rectifier and a regulator, plus a couple parts. I
Automatic Switches - MTH RealTrax?04 Jan 2008 16:07 GMT1
Is there such a thing as automatic switches for MTH RealTrax? What I'm
wondering is if you can set up a layout with many possible paths. By
automatic, I mean that the last car in the consist will cause the switch to
throw, thereby making the train take a different path the next time ...
