Fire ! Fire ! Fire !30 Apr 2008 22:33 GMT5
In one of the model rail mag's  a reader was 'complaining' he was
unable to get a scale model fire engine for the steam loco era for
his  'OO' loco's.
I had a quick look around the web and found nothing.
Son of Homasote Follow-up.30 Apr 2008 17:50 GMT2
Found out how to get all the Homasote I  -and possibly you-  will ever need.
Only big problem is that you've got to find the one guy at the commercial
desk in your local Lowe's retail outlet who can actually find his own a.s
using both hands and an explicit set of directions...  ...
Can't Find My Old Book29 Apr 2008 20:05 GMT4
I'm hoping someone here remembers an old book I used to have,
(actually, I still have it, but cannot find it.)
It was a good book about model railroading in general, but the 'how
to' was strictly HO scale (1:87)  The cover had green on it, and a
4mm Mark 1s29 Apr 2008 09:22 GMT42
Been thinking about this recently, staying with 4mm not Trix or early Triang
The Triang Hornby ones were actually not too bad, the roofs were correct but
the ends were not good.
Mainline had a good stab - they actually produced a corridor second! But the
Heights and clearances28 Apr 2008 21:12 GMT9
In OO, what is the accepted norm for height clearances of one track over
another, and what is the accepted gradient to achieve those heights please?

Gauges?28 Apr 2008 15:20 GMT32
I'm still struggling with gauges.   If I want to run trains that, in the
real world, run on 3ft 6in and 4ft 8 1/2in all in one layout do I run HO as
3ft 6in and then a "bigger" gauge as 4ft 8 1/2in or use HO for 4ft 8  1/2in
and something else for 3ft 6in?

Garden railways23 Apr 2008 12:38 GMT152
I am thinking of building a simple garden railway, and have in mind
either Gauge 1 or G scale.  I understand that the gauge of track for
both is the same, but the rail heights differ.  Will engines built to
either scale run on either type of track?  If not, which has the
New England tourist23 Apr 2008 07:52 GMT17
I live near Cambridge, England. Flying from London to Boston and
touring New England next month for three weeks. I would like to see
some US model railroad layouts but looking at Model Railroader it
seems you guys don't have exhibitions all over the place as in the UK,
The Penn LIne's moving!23 Apr 2008 02:19 GMT2
It needs encouragement, but esp. forward, it's starting to move.
Lessee, I filed down the cast-on, backwards-facing rods coming out of the
cylinders, so that there was less hitting by the rivets; bent the wire
that's soldered to the brush, so that it's not rubbing the body, and went
